"Time to get up! You wouldn't want to be late to your first day would you?" Mom yelled from downstairs. Just as I smelled bacon and eggs sizzling on the stove, I jumped out of my bed creating a loud thump as I ran down the stairs. "I knew that would get you out of bed in the morning!" Mom said while laughing. "If anything will get you out of bed in the mornings, it's food" mom and I laughed as she handed me a plate of food.
I wonder if I'll see that boy again. I thought as I chewed my food happily. Once I finished my breakfast I ran upstairs to shower and get ready for school. As I was brushing my teeth I thought to myself "Hm. What should I wear" after a few minutes of searching I found the perfect outfit. This will do just fine. I thought as I pulled out a pair of medium washed, destroyed Hollister jeans, a white floral tunic with a light blue cardigan and my favorite pair of tan Uggs. "Honey, your bus will be here in 15 minutes! Are you sure you don't want me to give you a ride to school today?" Mom yelled from downstairs. When I ran downstairs I smiled and said "Not today, mom. Here's to new beginnings" as I walked out the front door.
As soon as I walked outside there was a light breeze in the air, and birds were chirping joyfully in the trees. "Ah. What a beautiful day today" I thought aloud. When I was just about to turn the corner to the bus stop a girl around my age walked up to me smiling. "Hi! Rumor is you're the new girl to the neighborhood. I'm Cassie." She said as she outstretched her hand to meet mine. "Hi Cassie, I'm Elenora. But you can call me Elle" I said smiling as I shook her hand. "Wow. That's such a beautiful and unique name. I don't think I've ever heard anything like it in my entire life. " "thanks Cassie" I said smiling and we got onto the bus together. As soon as we walked onto the bus we went to the middle section and chose a seat. All around us were other people our age smiling and laughing, and some were by themselves with earphones in. Even one kid was using his fingers to drum on the back of a bus seat.
"So, what brought you to Beachwood?" Cassie said, pulling me out of my thoughts. "Oh, um. My mom is an author, and her boss likes to move her around for new adventures and new book ideas." "Oh wow, that's pretty cool. Except I bet you move a lot. That must suck." "Yeah. That's what I though at first. But something tells me that this time is going to be good." I said, smiling about everything that's happened so far.
When we arrived at the school, there were millions of people all over the place in their groups. It was like a stampede in pause mode. There were of course, the stoners in the corner, the skaters by the rails, trying to show off to new freshmen girls, the scene kids under the tree chatting, the nerds at a table talking about what classes they got this year, and then there was HIM. He was standing in the group of the jocks and the cheerleaders. "Oh my god" I said, not realizing that I said it out loud until Cassie looked at me, waving her hand in front of my face. "Helloooo. Earth to Elle." I blinked and looked at her saying "Yeah. What's up?" "What's up? Girl. I was talking to you about homerooms when suddenly you stopped in your tracks and froze. You look like you saw a ghost or something. You ok? Did you see an ex or something?" Cassie said now giving me a concerned look. "Nah. It's ok. I'm cool. I promise." I said, when the school bell rang and the announcer came on saying "GOOOOOOOD MORNING BEACHWOOD HIGH STUDENTS! WE'RE GLAD TO ANNOUNCE ALL OF THE NEW FRESHMEN AND ANY OTHER NEW STUDENTS TO THE SCHOOL, IF YOU ARE RETURNING THEN YOU KNOW THE DRILL. ALL STUDENTS NEED TO REPORT TO YOUR HOMEROOMS. I REPEAT, REPORT TO YOUR HOMEROOMS. IF YOU ARE UNSURE WHERE YOU BELONG, THERE ARE PAPERS POSTED AROUND THE SCHOOL WITH LAST NAMES AND ROOM NUMBERS. ALSO, THERE WILL BE TEACHERS AND HALL MONITORS AROUND IF YOU NEED FURTHER ASSISTANCE."
In that moment I swear it seemed like somebody pressed the play button on the stampede because I blinked and then there were students all around me rushing past me that were pushing and shoving and making their way into classrooms. Then Cassie grabbed my hand and said " Come on, Elle. We need to get you to the office or this crowd will run you over." Once we walked passed the group of jocks and cheerleaders, and HIM... I covered my face, then ran inside not letting him see me.
