Taylor was a lot of things, but stupid was definitely not one of them. She had some serious concerns about the relationship and decided to turn to Gabriella for advice.
"Ok, so Chad has always been very awkward in this relationship. Sometimes he just seems distant and uninterested. I thought I'd just be supportive and try to make him feel comfortable, but now it's gotten worse. Taylor vented.
"I'm so sorry, how has it gotten worse?"
"This past two weeks he's been even more distant and awkward, and on top of that I've caught him staring at Ryan at least half a dozen times!"
"Oh wow. First off, maybe break up with him. Tell him he needs to take time to figure out what he wants."
"You're right." Taylor sighed
"I'm so sorry, I know this must be heartbreaking."
"Honestly it's probably for the best that we never had much of a spark anyway, I'm mostly just confused."
"I'm here for you if you need me, and don't worry I'll help you get to the bottom of this." Gabriella assured her. They hugged and Gabriella was getting ready to leave when Taylor stopped her
"Wait, don't tell Troy about this ok?"
"Ok I won't"
"Promise?"
"I Promise."

It had been driving Chad insane. What was it about him? These past two weeks he couldn't help but stare at Ryan every once and a while. He and Ryan had talked a few times since and every time it made Chad smile, Ryan was sweet, funny, and honestly really cool. Chad was standing by his locker when Ryan walked up to him.
"Hey Danforth" he said with a smile
"Hey Evans"
"So I was thinking, we have been talking this past couple weeks but I feel like I hardly know you. Maybe you could have lunch with me or something tomorrow and we can get to know each other better." Ryan rambled trying to cover up the slight nervousness in his voice.
"Oh- uhh ok. I'd like that." Chad responded suddenly flustered.
"Ok great! I have to go but I'll text you the details."
"Wait but you don't have my number"
"Oh right. Can I have your number then?" Ryan responded knowing damn well what he was doing.
"Y-yeah." Chad managed to spit out, fighting off the slight blush coming across his face. Ryan handed over his phone so Chad could put his number in it, once he did Ryan went on his way and Chad was left in a state of flustered confusion. Why did Ryan make him feel like this? His phone went off and his heart skipped a beat for a second thinking it was Ryan, but it was Taylor. She had messaged him saying they needed to talk.

Chad met with Taylor outside.
"Hey we need to talk"
"Yeah, I got your message. What's up?"
"I think we need to break up."
"What, why?"Chad responded shocked
"You've been so distant and lately you've been staring at Ryan...like a lot."
"What? That's ridiculous I have not."
Taylor gave him a look
"Ok so I've been looking at him more often because we are becoming friends but I wouldn't call it staring."
"I would."
"But-"
"Ok look, I like you Chad, but I think we both know this isn't going to work out. I don't know what you want, but I don't think it's me. That being said, I still really care about you, and want to be friends, is that ok?"
"Yeah, that's ok, I want to be your friend too. I'm really sorry Taylor." Chad said realizing this was for the best.
"It's ok Chad." They hugged and Taylor and said
"So Ryan huh?" While trying not to laugh
"I have no idea what your talking about" chad replied defensively.
"Oh please you've been making heart eyes at him for weeks"
"Oh my god. I have not!" Chad laughed
Soon they were both laughing together and were satisfied about their decision. Some people really are just better as friends, and that's ok.
