05. 31. 15
I've always wanted to travel and for the first time ever, I got to leave the Ohio surrounding states. For months and months of planning and arranging, fifty kids from my class went to Washington D.C.
I woke up at three in the morning on Wednesday morning. I showered and got ready to go. At five fifteen, my dad drove me to the school. My social studies teachers had told us how the bus was never late, it was always there by five thirty. It was about six o' clock when it came.
As I put my suitcase under the charter bus, I hit my head which my friends, Tashia and C, laughed about. I remember hearing C's mom yell, telling them to ask if I was okay, but they were too busy laughing. I'm an overly sensitive person, so even though it didn't hurt, I felt like crying. It wasn't because of my friends, I would've felt like crying anyway. I do a lot to be honest. I always get embarrassed so easily.
We climb onto the bus and my friends get into the first row. There was already a bag in the seat across the aisle, so I walked past it. I sat two seats behind them. Just as they were trying to figure out how we could sit together, the dumbass guidance counselor came up to me and said I had to move. She wanted the seat. So I walked back and found the next available seat. I ended up sitting next to my social studies teacher. For the first hour or so, I continued to cry and try to stop crying. Every time I thought I was done, I started to cry again. It was just a silent cry, but it still sucked. I chewed my lip until it hurt. I can't help but do that when I'm nervous or sad or mad or extremely happy. I chew on my lip a lot.
About an hour in, there was a loud noise. For another two hours, we wouldn't know what it was. The right mirror had been torn off the bus.
An hour and a half into the nine hours drive, we took a bathroom break. My friends and I went to the bathroom, where I fixed my make-up and hair. Tashia came out of the bathroom. We waited for C for around five minutes. We searched around for C since it was almost time to go back to the bus. we called for her, in and out of the bathroom. We stand outside of the bathroom for a few more minutes and she walks out. We ask her where she's been, she says she was in a stall, but she didn't want to let everyone know she was there.
We drive for another half hour to hour when our guide informs us that we will be switching buses, due to the lack of mirror. He says about ten minutes more on the current bus. We end up driving for another thirty minutes, in circles. Finally, we pull into a movie theatre parking lot and switch buses where I switch seats and sit across from Tashia and C. Another kid, who we will call H, sat next to me for the rest of the day.
We chill, talk, watch movies, etc. until lunch time. At lunch, we go into a truck stop, eat some pizza and wings, and I buy a mug. My friends teased me but that was a good quality, $11.00 mug. I love that mug!
I can't remember if we stopped again before three o'clock, but if so, it must have been uneventful.
Finally, three o'clock rolls around and we get off the bus. We explore the Martin Luther King Memorial, which was amazing! By far my favorite memorial! We processed to walk to the FDR Memorial, but my friends and I got a little delayed. On our way there, we were behind everyone else (luckily) and I was walking a little to close to the edge of the sidewalk. I fell down.
A few people asked if I was okay, including C. I said I was fine. We got away from the people and my friends started laughing hysterically. I was fine, except I was trying not to cry from embarrassment again. I'm a very sensitive person as you can see.
After struggling to not die from embarrassment, I was fine, ending up with only scratches and a bruise on my knees. Probably the worst bruise I've ever gotten though.
We walked around the FDR memorial for a few minutes. Tashia then walked over to a guy with a sailors hat and told him she liked it. She walked away. He stood up, pulled up his pants and started to walk over like he wanted in her pants.
We walked to the Jefferson memorial next. We walked around, then sat by the water. We left soon after and went to Arlington National Cemetery. I was miserable, but it was a cool experience. My feet hurt like hell, but it didn't compare to when I got a giant ass cramp in not just one leg, but both. I was breathing hard, because of this. C asked if I was okay.
Next, we went to the Pentagon City Mall to eat. After being terrified by the escalators (which I am deadly scared of for some unknown reason) about five times, we finally ate pizza. After that, we rode a subway. As you can imagine from my scaredy cat ass, I was terrified by the escalators and subway. I felt physically sick for the rest of the day.
We walked into the Kennedy Center For Performing Arts and immediately was amazed by the amount of beauty contained under one roof. Then we went to the observatory deck where I took the picture above. It was the most amazing thing I've ever seen. Also, Tashia hugged a cute boy there.
We went to the hotel and realized why our parents don't trust us that much. We were loud and playing with everything.
We went to bed around midnight, happy and ready for the next day.
