Mia was sitting in the kitchen, sipping her morning coffee, when her mom walked in with a big smile on her face. "Good morning, sweetie!" her mom said cheerfully.

"Morning, Mom," Mia replied, looking up from her phone.

"I have some news," her mom said, her smile growing wider.

"What is it?" Mia asked, setting her phone aside.

"I'm getting married!" her mom exclaimed, clapping her hands together.

Mia's eyes widened in surprise. "What? To who?"

"David," her mom said, beaming. "He's wonderful, Mia. You're going to love him."

"Who's David?" Mia asked, feeling confused.

"He's Jackson's dad," her mom said, as if that explained everything.

Mia's heart skipped a beat. Jackson's dad? As in, Jackson, the boy she had just met yesterday? She couldn't believe it. "Wait, Jackson's dad? As in, my classmate Jackson?"

"Yes, sweetie," her mom said, still grinning. "Isn't it exciting?"

Mia's mind was racing. She had just met Jackson, and now they were going to be step-siblings? She didn't know how to feel. "I don't know, Mom. I barely know Jackson."

"Give him a chance," her mom said, placing a hand on her shoulder. "He's a great kid, and I think he'll make a wonderful stepbrother."

Mia nodded, still feeling unsure. She didn't want to upset her mom, but the idea of suddenly having a new family member was overwhelming.

Over the next few days, Mia tried to process the news. She couldn't stop thinking about Jackson and how strange it was going to be to see him at family gatherings. She wondered if he felt the same way.

The following Monday, Mia walked into English class and saw Jackson sitting at his desk. He looked up and saw her, giving her a small smile. She smiled back, feeling a bit awkward.

After class, Jackson approached her. "Hey, Mia," he said.

"Hey, Jackson," she replied, nervously.

"I heard about my dad and your mom," Jackson said, looking at her with concern. "Are you okay with it?"

Mia hesitated for a moment before answering. "I don't know yet. It's a lot to take in."

"I get it," Jackson said, nodding. "It's going to be weird for both of us, but we'll figure it out."

Mia felt a sense of relief hearing Jackson's words. She realized they were both in the same boat, and it was going to take some time to adjust. But with Jackson's support, she felt a bit more confident about the future.

As they walked out of the classroom, Mia felt a small sense of excitement mixed with nervousness. She didn't know what the future held, but she was ready to find out.
