The sun was already at its highest peak. I overslept. Xenoch doesn't seem to be around, he might've went looking for food. Food is scarce on these parts, I doubt it that he can get some food for the both of us. Things have been hard for us these days. Nobody would believe that taming a majestic dragon was even possible. No food, no friends, no... Family. Just us we've got no one to stick up for us but ourselves. I got up and made a fire from the broken branches that scattered around the forest, we were nestled on a glade where daffodils and roses grew, the fragrance of the field made me forget the horrid stench of the tavern. I lied happily within the floral field and enjoyed resting. After the fire went out Xenoch finally came back with loads of fish that he hauled with his mouth.
"Hey, you ready to fly to Sorthal? Our journey is going to be rough." I explained, "We need to make it there before the third light and might as well sell fishes in their market?"
Xenoch seemed to find that plan amusing or is it just the fact that we get to sell goods? Greedy little dragon..
I hopped on his back and we ventured forth to Sorthal. The next few hours of our journey was quite peaceful but a thought disturbed me, I remembered the past town's dragon encounter. The folks say that they once had dragons on their town, till one day the dragons lost control as if someone was controlling them.
Whatever that was I had to get to the bottom of it after I find more dragon trainers.
I couldn--
"What's wrong?" I asked, as Xenoch halted.
He seemed to be unsettled as he was growling at something. Something in the air, another dragon perhaps?
"You there." A random voice said from behind.
I turned and saw nothing, looked around in confusion, I was startled when I heard it again. At first I couldn't believe it but then so I've heard of Shapeshifters.
"Down here." The voice said, "Yes, over here."
A bird was standing on the ground, behind where I was seated.
"Nice dragon you got here." It spoke again, "You there boy , I have a message for you."
"What is it?" I asked.
"My master needs to have a word with you." It said, "He said its something to help you with your journey."
"How does your master know about me?" I asked, "What does he want from us?"
"Oh, he has been watching you." He continued, "He would like to train dragons of his own."
"Really?" I asked, "Take us to him."
"Follow me." He said, and took flight.
We followed the bird into a dark forest covered in cobwebs, scaly limbs moved behind the branches of trees. Probably spiders. Then ascended above a tall, dark mountain where a fire was settling. Stood there was a man draped of dragon skin. His face covered with scars and held a staff with his left hand. Xenoch landed and I got off to speak with this stranger.
"My lord." The bird said, "We have a visitor."
"Hello Hitch." The man spoke softly, "I am Karthus Do Couteau."
He was probably around forty years old living alone in a mountain.
"I have heard that you were in search of other dragon trainers." Karthus said, "Perhaps I can help you."
"I know." I replied, "your bird told me."
"Did he now." He said, "I know much of these dragon trainers you are looking for, where they live, what are their names."
"Where are they?" I asked excitedly "Are there many of them?"
"Sadly there are only 4." He said "but they are all parted, that is why you are here... to gather them, they need your help."
"Please tell me." I said, impatiently. "All my life I've been looking."
"I will give you a list of their current location." Karthus said, "But I need you to promise one thing."
"What is it?" I asked.
"I need you to succeed. You may have heard of tales of the dragon controller. He forced an entire horde of dragons to attack a town, no mere mortal can do such a thing."
"I promise." I said, "With the help of the other dragon trainers we can finally put a stop to this war between dragons and humans."
"Good." Karthus said, "Here are some things you might need and here is the list of the dragon trainers."
He handed over the list and the night before the winter broke, he packed me a satchel and a few deadly weapons.
I looked at the list and found no name of dragon trainers in Sorthal.
I guess we have been looking at the wrong places.
Xenoch was ready to take off. I spurred him into flight. The white dragon spread his wings, and we soared into the unknown.
