Xenoch's legs were now completely healed. A scar was left on the dragon's foot but besides that he was doing well.I went to town to buy some armor for me. The blacksmiths were kind enough to make me an armor made of leather scraps. I bought food of what is left of our money. Strawberry tarts were the only thing I could afford, I just plucked a couple strawberries outside of town so if we needed snacks.
We needed to start our search again soon, we were running low on coins and so as time. Even if we reached the next town a few days early we would starve. I guess I need to accept our fate in the forest, but it's deadly even when you have a dragon by your side.
I finished my last tart and tried on the armor. It fits so well and looks professionally crafted even though the materials are scrap. Xenoch seemed to like my new outfit.
"Thanks, you finished that tart yet?" I asked, "We need to get going again."
Xenoch nodded.
"Alright." I said, as I mounted him "We need to find Emily Hastur of Riverstead."
I spurred him and we burst through the barn door and ascended to the sky. The morning mist and the smell of strawberries mixed well, making this morning the perfect day to relax. We went further into the clouds, I couldn't see anything but the clouds and the bright sun. Up here I felt free, as if all my troubles would vanish into the clouds.
Oh if only I were a dragon...
But enough of the relaxing, we needed to hurry.
"Ok friend," I said, "let's get going."
Xenoch inhaled air and dove, I grabbed on to him and closed my eyes.
"Whoa." I said, "Easy now, we need to get there alive."
I laughed, I guess even Xenoch smiled a bit. He steadied his wings and we drifted slowly.
"Are you ready my friend?" I asked "We finally have a chance to meet another dragon trainer. Who knows, she might teach us a thing or two."
Xenoch responded with a nod as we flew.
Mountains ranged across the vast plains of this region. Not many grasses surrounded the forests, maybe because animals here are over populated. No dragons were to be found, for sure Treesnapes were hiding somewhere. No dragons attacked us whilst we had our journey. It was a safe and peaceful trip as I might say. The castle of Riverstead looked magnificent from afar, I bet it was even better up close. Since there was a dragon trainer in this area I hoped bringing a dragon inside wouldn't be a problem.
We dropped off at the front of the castle entrance.
"Halt." One of the guards said, "May I ask your bidding here in our kingdom?"
"I have to see a person." I said, "Her name is Emily Hastur?"
"What is it exactly you want with Princess Hastur?"
"Wait." I muttered, "She's a princess?"
"Yes." The guard said, "Now answer the question lad."
"Well as you can see I have my dragon companion with me." I said, "And I would be really happy if Madam Hastur would like to talk."
"I am sorry but your business here is irrelevant." He said, "Come back if you have a more serious affair."
Darn bastards... They think they're the ones in charge of the castle.
"That is not your choice to decide, Feryl." A stranger said from behind, "Stand aside and let him in, so as the dragon."
The guards hastily stepped aside and made amends.
"I'm sorry your majesty." The guard said.
"I am the one you are looking for." She said, "I'm Emily."
She reached out her hand and I shook it.
"Come." Emily said, "We've got a lot to talk about."
