Chapter XI - The Harrowing

Midnight struck, it seemed we were bound here for the night. Emily still hasn't recovered, though her leg was somehow looking better.

Eulycar finished enchanting the saddle minutes before Nykto woke up. It wasn't much trouble taming the elder dragon, good thing Eulycar knew some things on magic.

Tylia rested beside Nykto, draped in the dragon's wings for comfort. I stood watch for tonight, Tylia said that she gets 'Visitors' from the other side. I just didn't know who or what she was talking about.

The main hall loomed with darkness, only the torches that we lit were keeping us from seeing pitch black. Maybe blasting that roof wasn't such a good plan after all. Eerie noises surrounded the ruined fortress as usual. The night seemed less cold than most nights, well at least it couldn't get any worse.

"Pst."

I drew my bow and shot an arrow to where the sound came from.

"That was rude." It said,

"Where are you?" I asked, "Show yourself!"

"Hush now." It replied, "You'll wake the others."

"That's exactly my plan." I said, "Eulycar! Tylia! Wake up!"

They bolted right up from where they were resting.

"Fool, I wasn't talking about them." It said "Oh well, good luck."

The voice faded with it cackling.

"Others?" I asked, "What was he talking about?"

"Undead like creatures." Tylia said "They haunt me at night but Nykto kept them at bay. But he's not capable of doing it right now."

"Draugr." Eulycar said, "These things are ravage creatures."

"But these things are vengeful creatures are they not?" I asked, "If they're coming for you they mus-"

I stopped. Right, the witches of carnage slaughtered many people. And the draugrs must be coming for Tylia for revenge.

"They are coming for Tylia." I said "We should set a perimeter so that we'll cover much more ground."

"Understood." They said.

We barricaded the main hall's entrance as well as the windows. We kept a fire lit so we would stay warm and not get exhausted too much before we fight. Tylia was in charge of guarding Emily and Shyvana. Only four of us can really fight. Me, Xenoch, Eulycar and Aoga.

"Don't worry." Eulycar said, "I am a warmage of our clan."

"Okay." I said, "You and Aoga take the left wing, me and Xenoch will be handling the ones on the right."

She gave me a nod. I looked back to Tylia and the others, Nykto seems to be stirring but not likely to wake up yet.

The sound of the clank of worn metal and rusted swords grew in the distance. I readied my bow and arrow and aimed for the entrance doors. I shot an arrow as soon as the first draugr came in, it didn't go down. I shot a second arrow and flung past it hitting the draugr behind it. Eulycar brought out her staff and casted a spell.

"Ogha Mihnium Sifiox!" A red circle glowed beneath her and a fire formed in her palm. She lets it loose, it ricocheted within the ranks of the draugr killing five of them.

"Fire! They're susceptible to fire!" Eulycar shouted.

I ran to the fire pit and dipped the tip of my arrows in oil and lit them. I nocked three at the same time and let it hit perfectly to the heads of the draugr. Xenoch let loose a blue bolt of fire killing the draugrs coming in from the rooftop hole. Aoga kept guard of Eulycar as he bit draugrs with his mouth. I nocked a few more and let it flew with grace.

One.

Two.

Three.

Four.

Five down.

The last batch of draugrs came in from the windows, I reached inside my quiver.

Damn it no arrows left.

"Ogha Mihnium Sifiox!" Eulycar casted the spell that took down the last group of draugrs.

I glanced back to check on Tylia and Emily, thank Odin nothing bad happened to them.

"Is that it?" I said, "We're done?"

"I think so." Said Euly, "You should rest for a while before we go."

I was confused at first when she said we were going already, then I noticed that the sun was rising in the horizon. I spoke no word after that, I was exhausted after the fight. I settled in my bed beside Emily,  Xenoch was ready to sleep as well he curled up beside Shyvana.

Heh. Like tamer, like dragon I guess.

The crackling noise from the fire pit receded as I went deeper in my sleep.
