A Certain Selfishness

"Anirudh! Are you liking this?!!" Bondita asked him excitedly.

"Well, it's okay but, will I be alive after this?" Anirudh replied as he held the bark firmly.

"Don't always think about dying! It's better to die like this though."

"I am not liking your joke Bondita! I may fall-" He stopped in middle as he began to lose balance.

 Bondita quickly held his arm and said quickly, "Hey! Be careful! Sit down!"

After spreading his legs a bit and sitting in a good posture as a means to balance, Anirudh looked around curiously. Watching a sight he was seeing after many years.

"Really! I am seeing this view after so many years! I am feeling calmer now!"

"That's why I told you to climb this tree with me. See? My idea worked! Are you feeling relaxed now?" she said, moving closer to him.

"Hmm. My mind was engulfed with the case. It's tomorrow and, I am a bit nervous."

"It's better if you forget about that now. You have already prepared too much. Now, can I get your attention?" Bondita replied calmly as she held his face and looked towards him.

"You are seriously asking?! I always listen to you Bondita!" Anirudh replied with a laugh.

"Recently, you are thinking only about your work. If you think about me, you will not stress much about your work. Take it as a valuable advice!"

"Huh? Who gave you this valuable advice?"

"Nobody. It's my advice alone. If you think about someone you care about, then you don't overthink about unnecessary things. It will come in your exams."

"Which exams?"

"Life." Bondita replied with a soft smile to which he chuckled to himself.

"Now give me a helpful advice to get down. It's already high up here."

"Let's jump from here!"

"No! We won't! It's dangerous Bondita!" Anirudh replied with a glare.

"Uff! Don't be an old man now!" Bondita replied. She held his arm firmly and jumped off the branch. While, Anirudh gave a loud scream. They both eventually fell into the pond.

"Another advice. You don't have to take cold seriously." Bondita said, holding onto his shirt.

"Last time you said not to underestimate cold. Now this? You are seriously being a hypocrite here." Anirudh replied as he held her closer.

"I am. It's okay to be a hypocrite sometimes. Well, don't leave me, okay?"

"Why, you can't swim?"

"I have forgotten how to do it."

"Then why did you jump from there? Recently, you are being weird. Is anything bothering you Bondita?"

"I will tell you tomorrow." Bondita replied with a smile.

Bondita sat on her bed and stared towards Anirudh, who was organizing his documents. Her lips moved slowly and her hands clasped together. She got up and stood behind him in silence. 

"A... Ani-"

"I have to check my documents again.... Uh, do you want anything Bondita?" Anirudh asked her while holding the documents.

"N-No! I was just walking here and there....."

"Oh. Well, you should sleep now. It's almost midnight."

"Hmm. I will go for a walk."

"Umm, okay. Just be careful." Anirudh replied with a soft smile. He comfortably sat on the sofa and a newly bought table. 

"I wish I could talk to you more. But, it's okay....." She thought. She tied her hair into bun and walked outside.

Few hours passed. Anirudh gave a heavy sigh and kept his files away.

"Huh.... Finally, I can take some rest. I have checked them many times. Everything is perfect! Ah, Bondita, are you awa-" He stopped in between. His eyes softened upon looking towards his sleeping wife, who had turned her back to him.

He kept his files aside and drank a glass of water. Walking towards the bed, he stared towards her quietly. 

"It's so hot. I am seriously sweating...." he said in a monotonous way, still looking towards her.

He sat on the bed after putting his night shirt aside, and laid beside her. 

"Bondita....." He called her softly. He scratched his head and relaxed on the bed. 

"Well, I don't know if you are really asleep. If you are simply faking it, then listen. Were you trying to get my attention today? I was just worried why you were behaving a bit strangely. If this is the reason, then, just say it. You don't have to worry about disturbing me. Tomorrow, we will spend more time together, okay? No need to feel sad." He said with a gentle smile.

Blinking her eyes slowly, having an uneasy expression, Bondita held her cheek. 

"Bondita?" She heard him call her name again. She turned around and quickly pressed her lips on his, pushing herself against him. Anirudh's eyes widened a bit. He closed his eyes, while holding her by her arm. They felt each other's lips, as if they were yearning for each other.

After awhile, their lips parted, their eyes meeting. Anirudh's hand touched her cheek and he chuckled as he said, "I knew that you were awake, Bondita."

Bondita smiled shyly and said, "How are you able to figure me out so easily?"

"I have known you for long Bondita. Why won't I be able to understand you?"

"You are right!" She replied as she grinned. 

"I think we should take leave from the court for five days, and go somewhere. We aren't able to spend much time with each other."

"Yes, we should go to a hilly place! I want to see hills again!"

"Sure, let's go to Darjeeling!" Anirudh said happily to which she grinned.

"Ah, I want something more too...."

"What?"

"Your kiss" She replied, slightly embarassed. Anirudh laughed at her expression and her her face with his hands, "I wonder, when did Bondita become so innocent? Why is she so shy today?"

"You are really good at surprising me. What can I do?"

"Okay then. Today, I am feeling even more love for Bondita!" He replied with joy, pressing his lips all around her face. 

"Wait. Wait Anirudh! You should rest. Tomorrow is your case!" Bondita tried to say as she slightly closed her eyes, due to his kisses.

"I know. I was just feeling very happy now. Good night Bondita." He replied, keeping his arm around her waist.

"Hmm. Good night." Bondita replied happily, coming a bit closer to him.
