"Thank you all for coming and for taking part in our little dance competition. Now it's time to open our hearts to noble causes that concern schools, young people and children. Let's enjoy our dinner, but without losing sight of tonight's goal. Anyone who wants, can go to make your donation at the tables that you will find at the back of the room. Thank you all" one of the organizers of the evening announced, before leaving the stage smiling and waving as the applause started.
Frida smiled slightly as she clapped and watched a number of elegant gentlemen make their way to the tables at the back of the room. She had real curiosity to see for what noble causes the swollen wallets of that slice of society would be opened.
"Can you believe that that man was trying to promote a trip of twelve girls and their coach to Las Vegas for a supposed formation of dubious nature? In my opinion it's just to enjoy the beach and the wild nights of the city".
Frida turned to her right and saw Benny approaching with two full glasses in hand. He handed her one with a smile and she accepted it with a soft "Thank you, kind sir".
He smiled smugly and took a sip, his gaze still fixed on hers.
"You already know what to bid on?" she asked after a little sip of her champagne.
He shook his head slightly "Not yet. There are various projects that interest me, but I haven't decided yet" he told her simply.
"I saw a small stand with a series of children who 'offer' a day at the park with them in exchange for offers to build a playground near their school" Frida told him, chuckling slightly.
"Really?" Benny smirked "That's a good idea. We can donate to that too".
Frida raised her eyebrows "No, Benny. Donate as you like" she snorted embarrassed.
"But advice is welcome" he murmured, leaning close to her ear and kissing her cheek.
She grinned and felt her cheeks blush slightly "Yes, but you get to decide".
"Ok" Benny sighed, returning next to her "I like the idea of winning a date with some children. Heléne would be thrilled" he winked at her.
Frida looked at him amused "Do you need to pay for a fun date?".
He chuckled defiantly "Well, you know, I felt a little unloved recently".
"Ohh, poor baby" Frida told him, laughing. Making him laugh too.
"Come. I'll take you to the table, I'll make my offerings and then we'll have dinner" he told her, placing a hand on her back and bringing her to his table, quickly leaving to go and do his bidding and return as soon as possible.
Frida looked around, studying the comings and goings of people, some dressed in truly extravagant ways. Frida also found herself exchanging some chatting with some old acquaintances she hadn't seen in a long time.
"Can we finally talk?".
Frida turned quickly to her right. Bertil was standing next to her, a frown on his face. She sighed "Bertil...".
The man winced slightly and moved the chair to sit down. Frida sighed.
"May I know what... happened? I mean, I thought the evening started well. I... If it was because of Arthur, I...".
"No, Bertil. Stop" Frida stopped him, placing a hand on his arm "It has nothing to do with that man. And neither do you. Me and Benny...".
Bertil's gaze darkened "I understood since we met at the studio that there was more than just friendship between teacher and father of a pupil. But I... Yes, well..." he said to her almost embarrassed. Then he took a deep breath and looked into her eyes "I like you, Frida. Always have".
