Jack nervously glanced at you as he led the way through his home and into the kitchen.

"I'm sorry for the uh...mess."

You looked around, but didn't really see any kind of a mess. Jack's house was a home, it was lived in. Completely broken in. Full of life and love. You saw children's art on the walls, and toys on the floors. Even schoolwork and half-eaten snacks on the table.

Every bit of it made you smile. You missed being in a home like this. A family home.

"Here," Jack said, catching your attention. "It's all I have."

He popped the cork off a small bottle of champagne and poured its contents.

"Thanks."

"Cheers," he said with a twinkle in his eye, holding his flute up to clink. "To...our health."

You found his dark humor amusing, and perhaps you shouldn't have, but it seemed fitting for the two of you.

You raised your flute, "Yes, cheers."

After clinking and taking a sip, Jack nervously looked around again. You suspect he never thought he'd have company so soon. Or perhaps even another woman anytime soon, or possibly ever.

"Your kids?" you asked, glancing around again.

"With their mom. Heinrich is at a sleepover. So it's just us."

You hid your smirk by taking another sip of your champagne. Did he intentionally get his kids out of the house for you?

Being a bit...brave, you left the kitchen and made your way into the living room, Jack silently and slowly followed.

You glanced at all the family photos hanging on the wall. They consisted mostly of Jack's children at various ages and milestones in their life. There were black-and-white images of what you assumed were Jack's parents and childhood. There were also family portraits, a few still containing Jack's ex-wife, Babette was her name if you recalled. You didn't blame him for leaving them there. She was still a part of his children's lives.

You peeked over at Jack. He was just pensively watching you. His face set in a curious look.

"You have a very beautiful family, Jack."

He finally broke a smile and nodded his agreement.

You could tell the tension was rising. You felt it. The nerves before committing to a night that you intended on having...

"Oh! It's beautiful!" you squealed, distracting yourself. You glanced at all the records organized on the shelf and the massive record player, along with two large speakers on either side.

"My dad was a collector," you stated as you rummaged through the vinyl. You noted several that your dad also had, Elvis Presley, ABBA, The Doors.

Without even looking, you hit play on the record player and it whirred to life. Instantly, it began to pump out music.

"It's the girls," Jack said over the sound of David Bowie singing his newest song 'let's dance'.

You smirked at him. "They have good taste." The hypnotic bass vibrated the room and you couldn't help but sway your hips slightly as you continued to glance around the room.
