After five miserable days of self-loathing, regretting your actions, and getting grief from not only your brother but also your grandparents too, you found enough courage to drive over to Jack's house.

You hadn't seen him or taken any of his calls even though he called every night. But here you were tromping up his driveway unannounced with every intention of clearing things up. If he loved you, truly loved you, he'd tell the truth.

You couldn't just pack away the love you had for Jack in a little box and put it on the shelf. Jack would need to start talking if he wanted you.

After giving the front door three big knocks, you waited...and waited. His car was in the drive so you knew he was home. Just when you started to feel as if this was an idiotic plan, the door flew open.

"You're here," Jack breathed.

"I am." Your eyes danced over his features. He looked tired, his hair slightly out of place, his shirt wasn't ironed. "May I come in?"

"Y–yes, sure," Jack stuttered, moving to the side to let you in.

Stepping inside was like stepping back into warm memories. It actually made you smile.

"Can...I get you water, coffee, some tea?" Jack was a bit scattered, he had been knocked completely off guard by your sudden visit.

"Water would be good," you said quietly.

Jack moved quickly, fetching you water as you sat down at the kitchen table.

When Jack set your water down, he sat down too. Then waited patiently for you to make some kind of indication as to why you were there. Your chest ached as you finally glanced up at his puppy dog eyes.

"I–"

"I–"

You both started.

Jack chuckled, "Sorry, you go."

"I came here to get the truth," you blurted finally after taking a deep breath.

Jack just smiled and wordlessly stood, asking for your hand.

You eyed it, wondering what he was planning.

"It's upstairs."

With a sigh, you stood, taking his hand. It was warm, and large, and it sent shivers over your flesh.

When the two of you reached his bedroom, he deposited you on his bed and you watched as he opened his closet. Half of it was entirely empty, evidence that his once other half wasn't there. You quickly glanced around and realized most anything that would possibly resemble a woman still existing here was gone. No photos hung on the walls, or belongings on the bedside.

Jack groaned as he pulled a heavy box off the top shelf in his closet and brought it to his bed. With a bit of hesitation and a quick clearing of his throat, Jack proceeded to open the brown banker box.

He flicked through the files inside until he found what he wanted and handed it to you.

"What is this?"

"Just open it." Jack nodded, setting the box on the floor and sitting down on the bed next to you.

You opened to find papers. Letters and what appeared to be legal documents. You read the first line. Decree of Divorce. Signed, Jack Gladney and Babette Gladney. Dated many months ago and approved and sealed by a Judge.
