Valerie was on her way to check Hannah's vitals for Brain since he was pulled into emergency surgery. As she was walking, she was stopped by a woman with red hair, with a hood over her head.
"Excuse me?"
"Hello, can I help you?" Valerie wearily, getting an odd feeling about this woman.
"My sister is in the hospital and I don't know where her room number is. Can you tell me where she is?" She asked, Valerie gave her a fake smile.
"You have to sign in at the front desk. They'll give you all the information," Valerie bid the women goodbye and continued walking towards Hannah's room.
She entered the room, the mother laying on the bed still unconscious. Valerie checked her vitals and updated her chart which was located at the edge of the bed. As she was writing on the charts, the door burst open, scaring Valerie. She sighed in relief when she saw it was just Tim and Lucy. Tim had his gun drawn out while Lucy was pushing a scared Nancy into the room in a wheelchair.
"What's going on," She asked, getting scared.
"We know who the shooter is. She's on her way here," Tim told her, Lucy pushed Nancy next to her mother.
"Do you know who this is?" Lucy asked, showing Nancy a picture of the shooter on her phone.
"No, I don't know who that is," Valerie took a peek at the phone and froze.
"I do," Both officers turned their heads to her, Valerie took Lucy's phone taking a closer look. "I saw her like ten minutes ago, but she doesn't have black hair, it's red now. She was asking for her sister's hospital room. I had caught a bad vibe from her."
"My mom doesn't have a sister," Nancy cried, holding on to her mother.
"Did you tell her where the room is," Lucy asked her cousin who shook her head.
"No, all visitors have to check in at the front," Valerie told them.
"Lopez just texted, the shooter is Jason's ex-wife," Tim said and Nancy wiped her tears.
"Lauren, that psycho bitch?" She spat out in anger, tightening her hold on her mother.
"So you do know who she is," Tim asked.
"I know of her, not what she looks like. Jason divorced Lauren six years ago, she was cheating on him, always high on drugs. She'll hit him and sell all his dead mother's belongings for cash to buy more drugs. She killed their unborn daughter because she overdose on heroin. She went crazy when Jason handed her divorce paper," Nancy told them but her face formed into confusion. "I remember there were two."
"Two? Two what? Tim asked.
"Two people in the house, one of them had the gun," Nancy thought hard before her hand went to the side of her neck. "And the other one held a knife to my throat. I think the person who held the knife was a man."
"I'll call it in," Tim said and spoke into the radio. Valerie walked towards the door but Tim stopped her.
"What are you doing?" He asked, pulling her back away from the door.
"It's not hard to get the patient's room number," Valerie told him, "The room across is empty, we can put her in there."
"We can ambush them," Lucy added, agreeing with her cousin's plan.
"Alright, let me check if it's clear first," Valerie quickly unhooked Hannah from the monitors and put the gurney in gears, waiting to wheel her out. Lucy stood behind Nancy. "All clear, let's go."
Tim helped Valerie push Hannah's gurney into the room empty room across. He quickly ushered Lucy in.
"Chen you stay here and sneak up from behind. I'll stay in the room waiting for them," Tim ordered, Valerie's heart rate picked up. Tim gave Valerie a look of reassurance before leaving the room.
Valerie went to stand next to Nancy and comforted her. Lucy stood in front with her gun drawn out, looking through the window. A few minutes went by and Lucy stiffen, she looked over at her cousin giving her a look.
"Two figures approaching the room, one male and one female that fits the description," Lucy radioed to Tim, she looked over at the two. "Stay down and stay put," Lucy told the two, Valerie nodded her head. Nancy tried to hold in her sob by covering her mouth. She waited a bit, still looking through the window again before exiting the room.
"LAPD, hands in the air," She heard Tim yell causing Valerie to sigh out in relief. She squeezed Nancy's shoulder who sobbed even more.
~~~~~
Valerie stood in front of the hospital breathing in the fresh air. She was done giving the police her statement and stood outside taking a break.
"Hey," Tim said, walking up to her
"Hey."
"Are you okay?" He asked and she nodded.
"Yeah I'm fine, just a little shaken up," She told him who nodded in understanding.
"That was smart thinking back there," Tim smiled at her.
"Well my IQ is 173," His eyes widen in shock.
"So you're a genius," She laughed nodding her head.
"I have a photographic memory and can read over 10, 000 words in a minute. Skipped like three grades."
"You just keep impressing me more and more," Valerie blushed looking down at her lap with a smile. Tim caught her blush and smiled as well. "Don't do that," he lifted her head, "You have a beautiful smile." Valerie's heart melted at his words.
They stared into each other eyes, smiling at one another. Tim noticed that. How they are always smiling at one another.
"Hey Valerie, I just heard. Are you okay?" Vincent asked, rushing up to the two. Tim and Valerie broke their gaze from one another and stared at the intern. Vincent quickly brought his big sister into a hug.
"I'm fine Vinny. Tim here saved the day," Valerie gestures to the tall officer. "Tim this is Vincent, my little brother." Lucy walked towards the group, standing next to Tim.
"Your little brother?" He asked confused, looking between the two.
"You can't tell? We look alike," Vincent told him. Tim stared at him, frozen not knowing what to say. Lucy stifled a laugh. "I'm just fucking with you," Vincent laughed causing Tim to awkwardly laugh.
"My mom took Vincent and his brother in. His brother is my best friend," She told him.
"Lucy told me, also told me you have a brother in S.W.A.T.," She nodded.
"Yup," Valerie's pager started beeping. "I'm being paged, I have to go."
"Thank you for your help today V," Lucy said, bringing her into a hug. "I know today was crazy."
"It was no problem. Let's never do that again," Valerie told them, causing the group to laugh.
"Agreed"
Valerie bid the two goodbyes, taking Vincent with her. Tim stared as she walked away, his eyes trailing over her body. Lucy looked up at Tim and notice that he was staring at her cousin.
"Stop staring at my cousin."
