L woke up and it was now 6 pm. He slept for 4 hours and Watari handed him some broth and a glass of water. "How are you feeling, L?" He asked him, seeing how tired he still is. L didn't answer this as he was still having chemo brain and it hurt his head a lot. Basically a headache and he couldn't stop these two things.
"I feel weak...owww..." He said, moaning as he held onto his forehead. Watari checked it out and went to get one pill of Advil. He came back with it and handed it to him. L took it, swallowed it with some water. He started to drink some of his broth and continued to do so until it was gone. "Thank you, Watari. I'm sorry for making you angry that day about Light." He said, apologizing to his adoptive father.
"I accept your apology." He accepted it and smiled, then received a phone call from Soichiro. He flipped open his phone and then answered it. "Hello, Soichiro. What??? Are you serious? Alright, I'll be there." He said, ending the call after.
"What happened, Watari?" L asked, wondering what's going on. We then see that they are both in the hospital and saw Light in his bed, laying there sleeping. Not unconscious, but laying there sleeping. He had an IV in his hand and was looking rather unwell.
"What's wrong with Light?" L asked, clearly worried about him.
"He overdosed on some pills and nearly died. We did manage to get them before they absorbed, but he's still hurting. Not to mention, we have to do a suicide watch." The doctor told him and Watari this, explaining how Soichiro went to read Light's journal and it included 5 poems and several journal entries. One of them included the day L was diagnosed with cancer and how it made him really feel as far as to being suicidal. L was unable to process this as his chemo brain was still there and he found it hard to understand what is going on. "Do you not understand what I'm talking about?" The doctor asked him.
"He has chemo brain. Don't talk shit to my son." Watari answered, clearly annoyed by his attitude.
"I'm not. I just was noticing his behavior." He said, commenting on L and how he wasn't paying attention properly.
"Well, quit it! How would you like it if your wife or someone in your family has cancer?" He exclaimed, getting even more angry.
"Alright, you're now starting to piss me off." The physician said, clearly noticing Watari acting this way is really pushing him to call security.
"I don't care! Make fun of my adoptive son like that again and I'll have you sued for malpractice!" He screamed, which L started freaking out as he never has dealt with Watari being this upset ever. Normally, he's calm and chill. Sometimes upset, but never this angry. Well, except that one time. But that's different. The doctor got out his walkie-talkie and spoke to it.
"I'd like to have a male, age 74 to be taken out of Mr. Yagami's room." He said, speaking to the security guards. They showed up immediately and saw Watari and pulled him by the arms.
"Come with us, little boy." One said to L, thinking he was some child. Especially with the lack of hair, it made L look younger.
"I'm an adult. That's my adoptive father. LET ME GO!!!" He said, then screamed as his wrists were being grabbed on forcefully too and he and Watari were pushed out of the building. They were alright but holy shit. That doctor had no right to treat L like this as well as the fact he assumed he was slow or some shit like that.
"God, what kind of doctor decides to ask a question like that to you!!!" Watari screamed, tears flowing from his eyes.
"Watari, I understand you're angry. But I think he was trying to make sure if I'm okay." L tried to tell him, but he kept fuming.
"I don't care. He was being unprofessional at his own job. We wanted to see Light and that's it. I don't understand what is wrong with that goddamn doctor!!!" He screamed some more, breaking down with tears as he unlocked the limousine. That same day, Watari drove to the Yagami household and parked the limousine at the driveway. By the time he and L made it to the door, he knocked it and was greeted by Sachiko.
"Would you two like tea?" She asked them and they went inside. Soichiro was in the living room, reading a book. He put it down when he saw Watari all upset and L, simply worried.
"What's gotten you two so down?" He asked them as they didn't say anything.
"We went to check up on Light and after being told what happened to him, the doctor in his room thought L was slow and made fun of him for having chemo brain." Watari explained to the younger Yagami this and Sachiko interrupted, bringing tea to them. L sipped his and smiled.
"Thank you, Sachiko." He thanked her and she smiled back, joining the conversation with her husband and his co-worker. L sipped his tea some more and smiled more than ever, feeling so much better. It was green but really good. Plus, he can tell that matcha tea does help after all with fighting cancer. He finished his tea not long afterwards, trying to engage in the conversation itself.
We then see Light in the hospital still and he was being watched, making sure he doesn't commit suicide again as the way he chose to, nearly caused heartache as well. Especially given he is at a different city in the Tokyo district, it still was rather concerning. "Light, we are suggesting you see a different therapist. One in your area that can help you." The doctor who disrespected L said to him.
"No..." He sobbed, crying harder as he really wanted to leave the psych ward and the hospital itself, knowing this isn't where he belongs. Light continued to cry, feeling like he ruined his entire life and really wants to end it all again. The next day later, Light was discharged and he didn't say anything to L again. Mostly because he was still scared of losing him and he was feeling suicidal some more. He then vomited, holding his head as he felt it hurting randomly.
"Light, when we get back home, I'll make you something to eat and you can tell me what's wrong. Alright?" Watari said to him and he nodded, crying harder. L had just cleaned his hands with hand sanitizer and hugged him, kissing his cheek.
"It's okay, Light. I still love you and I want to be there for you." He told him, holding his hand. Light nodded, not saying a word to him, which was okay. He didn't have to speak to him if he wanted, but he did have to at least talk about his suicidal thoughts and fear of losing him. At the apartment, Watari immediately went to make Light some miso soup.
"Hi, Light." L greeted him as he was laying down in his side of the bed. Light looked at him and held his hand, kissing his nose.
"L, I'm sorry for not talking to you for who knows how long it's been. I've been very suicidal and scared than ever. If you die from cancer, I'll have to end my life. You said that as long as we share the same fate, we will both die." He sobbed, his eyes getting red and puffy from doing so.
"That was different. When you were Kira." He told him, then blinked his eyes. Light sobbed harder, feeling like everything in his life has just gotten worse and he didn't want to be around anyone at all. He sobbed hysterically some more, feeling really worthless and sick. He moaned as the pain in his stomach hurt a lot. Why did he have to swallow those damn pills? He just didn't understand. Watari showed up and gave Light his bowl.
"Here, Light. This will make you feel better." He said, handing it to the light brown haired 21 year old.
"I don't want it." He refused, feeling more agony and moaned some more, feeling the pain hurt harder.
"Light, Watari is trying to help you as well. Please eat something. You've not done so in a long time." L told him and he looked at the bowl, trying to eat the soup. He did so and continued doing so, feeling dizzy and sick in the end. He closed his eyes and fell asleep afterwards.
