I'm putting this at the beginning, because it doesn't really feel right to have at the end.

This song started playing as I wrote the beginning of this and I kind of just lost it. Just went with whatever flowed out of my head afterward.

Gonna keep it short and sweet, just like this chapter.

I don't, well, ever do this. Play the song for the rest. Turn your lights off, relax, and just try to picture everything.

Akali: hey are u up?

(Y/N): unfortunately

Akali: wanna drive around or something?

(Y/N): ...yeah, that'd be nice

---

I guess partner is a decent word to use for now, then.

I was riding down the highway, Akali's arms tightly wrapped around me. She decided to play backpack for some reason tonight, but I wasn't complaining. She was really warm, and having her head lying against my back was much preferred to the alternative that was my cold, lonely bed. Especially after the laps my mind ran tonight.

It felt good outside, to say the least. I was wearing just the right amount of clothing that made a ride at this time of night perfect. I wasn't too sure if Akali had any issues. She had arrived at my place a few minutes after that text, wrapping in me in an embrace quickly after. The only words said after that were, "I'm riding with you, let's go."

So truly, I didn't know what was on her mind. I was also against the idea of asking for now, preferring to enjoy the comforting silence as we drove to whatever destination we ended up at. I did have work in the evening, but this took precedence anyways. This wouldn't be the first time I've said that job meant nothing to me. Not compared to this.

I heard a slight hum coming from behind me. My mind couldn't make out whether it was the wind, Akali saying something to me, or her genuinely just humming. If it was a pressing issue, she'd get me to stop or something, hopefully.

Speaking of a stop, one of those was in order. Had to figure out the time, as well as where we were actually going, if anywhere. But for now, at least, I could enjoy the night ride with her at my side.

A few minutes later, I eventually pulled off at an exit, finding the closest gas station. 7/11 ended up being the stop of choice, the tires of my bike coming to a halt soon after. I cut the engine, shifting the motorcycle into neutral. Akali was off first, pulling her helmet off and mumbling something about snacks. I shrugged, following her into the convenience store.

I opted for something hot, pouring myself a quick coffee. A quick glance around the store was all it took for me to see a bobbing ponytail rummaging through a shelf, grabbing a few bags of candy. She usually opted for Swedish Fish, but today, she decided on a pack of all blue Sour Patch. The taste got old after a while, but as long as she liked it, that's all that mattered.

We now sat on the curb of the gas station, watching the skyline in the distance. We were closer to the city than I thought, but it was late enough to where there weren't many vehicles on the road. An occasional sedan or SUV passed by, and I noticed her head turn to follow it any time one entered her vision. It was cute.

I scooted over to her, throwing my arm around her shoulders. She said nothing, opting to instead lean her head against my shoulder. We sat and continued car-watching for a bit, losing track of time in all honesty. I took a sip of coffee on occasion, the warm liquid soothing my throat as it flowed downward. She stole my drink once or twice, her lips leaving a slight blue impression on the lid, but I didn't mind it too much.
