The are 6 matters a muslim must believe and these are the core beliefs of Islam. The six articles of faith (إِيمَان) are-
1. Belief in Allah.
2. Belief in Angels of Allah.
3. Belief in Books of Allah.
4. Belief in Prophets of Allah.
5. Belief in the Last Day (Day of Judgement).
6. Belief in the Divine Decree of Allah.
As mentioned in an authentic Hadith recorded by Imam Muslim (may Allah have mercy on his soul) in his Sahih-
قَالَ فَأَخْبِرْنِي عَنِ الإِيمَانِ . قَالَ " أَنْ تُؤْمِنَ بِاللَّهِ وَمَلاَئِكَتِهِ وَكُتُبِهِ وَرُسُلِهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ وَتُؤْمِنَ بِالْقَدَرِ خَيْرِهِ وَشَرِّهِ " . قَالَ صَدَقْتَ
He (the enquirer) said: Inform me about Iman (faith). He (the Prophet) replied: "That you affirm your faith in Allah, in His Angels, in His Books, in His Messengers, in the Day of Judgment, and you affirm your faith in the Divine Decree about good and evil." He (the enquirer) said: You have told the truth.
