Harriet sat on the Chamber of Secrets' stone floor with the water gently sloshing beside the tiles as Tom contemplated all she had revealed to him.

"That's why you and I simply.......can't be." She frowned, "Don't you understnad, Tom? We're destined to destroy each other."

Tom grinned as he stood to his feet and looked around.

"Is something about this funny?" She asked.

"How can you speak of destiny when there is no such thing, Harriet Snape?" He chuckled bitterly.

Harriet narrowed her eyes, "Have you not heard what I've just told you? The prophecy said-"

"I don't give a damn what the prophecy said!" Tom roared.

His rageful shout echoed off the Chamber's cavernous walls as he hunched towards Harriet with his jaw clenched in anger.

She gazed at him with wide eyes as she studied him closely.

For just a moment, she finally saw a hint of her old friend.

"Forgive my outburst, sweetling." Tom sighed as he straightened himself and passed a hand through his dark, curly hair.

"You're not proving your point very well." Harriet retorted, "That's exactly what your other part would have done."

"The thought of being separated from you forever fills me with rage." Tom admitted before he closed his eyes and took a deep breath.

When he opened them again, Harriet frowned at the flickering darkness she saw in his black gaze.

"I dunno how that's preventable." She shrugged after a long moment, "..........I understand what I must do, but how can we possibly forge a path together, Tom? Now? With everything that's already happened? You aren't even a real boy, you're.......you're just one portion of a whole?"

"And who is to say that a portion cannot become the whole?" Tom smirked.

Harriet frowned, "What are you talking about?"

Tom's smirk remained on his handsome face as he mused, "Deep in my memories, I can see it clear as day.......The moment I asked Professor Slughorn about horcruxes. You mentioned those earlier, did you not?"

"I did." Harriet nodded.

"And the larger piece of me has made six?" He asked.

"Seven, including you." She replied.

"Very well, six besides me." Tom said with a nonchalant motion of his hand, before he grinned, "Suppose they were all destroyed and I was the only one left.......Then I would no longer be a part, I would become the new whole........I would be all that's left, anyway."

".......Is that how it works?" Harriet frowned.

Tom blinked.

"I mean, you're the one who knows about this sort of thing." Harriet nodded, "I only know what I've been told."

Tom opened his mouth but she quickly added, "-This isn't exactly the material they cover in Defence Against the Dark Arts, Tom."

"I can't be certain......not at this moment." Tom admitted with an irritated frown, "I can, however......conduct an experiment and find out."

"Really?" Harriet asked, "How's that?"

"Simple." Tom grinned, "I'll find one of my other pieces, destroy it, and see what happens."
