it had been a day since the argument occurred between lori, carl, and briar. the latter two decided to distance themselves from the heavily pregnant mother, so briar found herself in her and t-dogs cell, laughing and playing 'uno' between themselves. t-dog told the girl that most of the prisoners got killed, two of them trying to start shit and the other one getting bit. briar was glad that she wasn't there.

briar was stood with carl, beth, hershel, carol, and lori, as they all assisted the older man out of the cell block and out to the courtyard. he was on some squeaky crutches, making the journey a few minutes slower. maggie soon joined them, walking up with a red-flushed face and hair that resembled a birds nest. standing next to briar, she acted unsuspicious but her bullshitting face could never fool the older girl, who stood with a smack on her face. "did 'ya have a good sleep, mags?" she teased, maggie smacking her arm as the other cackled to herself.

the peaceful moment didn't last long, however, because the sound of multiple dozen walkers blared in her ears as the small group spun around. "walkers!" carl yelled, as rick and the others ran up the hill to the prison. lori, carl, and maggie ran off in one direction. good, they're safe, briar thought, as she watched hershel and beth lock themselves in a cage. she ran toward carol and t-dog, only catching the last few moments as he closed the gate, but a walker came behind him and took a bite out of his shoulder, leaving a permanent wound engraved on his perfect skin. time slowed. and for the first time in years, she felt like nothing was real. her mind raced.

'this can't be real. it isn't real. please. don't let it be real.'

but it was real.

the three of them ran through the darkened catacombs with a huge sense of urgency. briar knew he was going to die. but maybe, at the end of the winding maze, there was a cure. a cure for t-dog, a cure for her pain. walkers were on their tail and they all knew that somebody had to die; but briar refused to allow herself to let her person go. so, as they held hands and ran through the corridors, t-dog dropped her hand as a walker took a chunk out of his arm.

her screams were silent. at least, they were to her. the tears that blurred her eyes couldn't blur them enough as she watched him succumb to the walkers that were now eating at his neck, but not before shouting at carol and herself. "go! i'm dead!"

carol took the shaking girls arm and dragged her to a nearby supply closet, sitting down on the floor beside her as the tears stopped and deep down, she wished her own heart would stop too. the screams of t-dogs dying body silenced, but the tearing of his flesh didn't. history repeated itself in her head, and her mind couldn't stop thinking of ajax. they're together, it's okay. stop being pathetic. carol took the girl into her arms. she knew that as much as her grief could never be resolved, she could provide some comfort for the woman.

the two days that the duo were stuck in the closet was torture. briars bones ached and her face was swollen, streaks of her cheeks stained with tears that never seemed to stop, even though she was so dehydrated she couldn't even talk. her mind was drowning in visions of t-dog. what if they were the only ones left? the only noises that were heard were the groans of passing walkers which stopped pretty quickly, and the small sobs that emitted from the two of them.

until daryl opened the door and his face dropped at the sight of the two women who were covered in dirt, blood, and were droopy eyed.
