Max took her into another room, in which there was nothing but a small mattress. "Welcome to my humble abode." he smiled goofily.
"How can you be so happy?" Thalia asked softly. "How long have you been here?" Max's smile faded. "Since the middle of senior year." Thalia gave him a sympathetic look. "I'm so sorry."
Max walked closer to her. She instinctively stepped back. He grabbed her arm to stop her from moving. He put his face next to hers and whispered to her; "I'm going to escape. Would you like to come with me?" "How?" she breathed. "I almost have it completely figured out." Thalia glared at him.
"What?"
"Nevermind."
There was an awkward silence before Thalia broke it; "Soooooooooooo, what's your power?"
"What makes you think I have one?"
"Why else would you be in here?"
"Touché."
Thalia smiled again. He was really getting on her nerves.

Max bounded into the room with way too much energy. Thalia gave him a questioning look, but he just shrugged it off. She went back to eating her dinner.
