My first day at U.A. felt unreal in the best way.

I was allowed to leave the house.

That alone made my chest feel lighter than it had in weeks.

I’d asked Kurogiri to warp me to school—old habits die hard—but he’d paused, eyes glowing faintly.

“You possess wings,” he said calmly. “Flight would be more appropriate.”

He wasn’t wrong.

So I flew.

The city peeled away beneath me as I rose, wind cutting across my feathers, nerves humming with excitement and something sharper underneath. U.A. came into view fast—tall gates, clean lines, a place that demanded control.

I landed just outside the entrance.

All Might was waiting.

Too close. Too loud.

“HELLO, YOUNG TAKAMI!” he boomed. “I AM HERE TO ESCORT YOU TO—”

“I’m good,” I said flatly, walking past him. “I can find my own classroom.”

He blinked. I didn’t look back.

Inside, my classroom was already loud.
Katsuki was mid-argument, voice sharp, palms crackling. Someone else was yelling back. Chairs scraped. Tension climbed.

Aww, I thought distantly. They’re already married.

I stepped forward.

“Enough.”

Flames rolled over my shoulders—not wild, not uncontrolled, but hot enough to make the air tremble.

The room went silent.

“That includes everyone,” I added, gaze sweeping the room. “Family or not.”

I let the fire fade and took my seat.

Aizawa was asleep at his desk.

“Uncle,” I said, nudging the desk with my foot. “Class started.”

“I will not be—” he began.

I flicked my wrist. A feather floated down, balancing his coffee perfectly beside his hand.

“—awake,” he finished, opening one eye, “…without caffeine.”

Hitoshi shot me a look.

Another feather drifted his way. He smiled despite himself.

The day went by in a blur—assessments, training, control tests. I placed first. I felt eyes on me the entire time, measuring, cataloging.

By the time I got home, my muscles ached.
Then I heard yelling.

Father and Rumi were in the living room, voices sharp enough to cut.

I moved without thinking.

Feathers snapped out, sealing their mouths mid-argument.

“Why,” I asked evenly, “are you fighting?”
I freed Rumi first.

“He knows,” she said, shaking. “About your dad. About Milo. And he said—” She swallowed. “He said he’d kill her.”

I turned slowly.

“You won’t,” I said to Father. “Ever.”

He tried to move.

I stepped into his space and took my phone back from his pocket, hands steady.

Blue flames ignited around me—

Deepening, darkening, shifting from blue to red to something heavier. I wasn’t burning. I was contained.

Kurogiri appeared beside me.

“Young one,” he said carefully, “I must retrieve your family.”

“No,” I said. “Let him hear me.”

The portal opened anyway.

Dad stepped through first, eyes sharp.

“You will not threaten my family,” he said quietly. “Not today.”

Papa followed, coming straight to me, hands grounding, voice low.

“Ash,” he murmured. “Stay with me.”

I did.
