Shimmer and I have been meeting in the afternoons for a couple of weeks now and when I report to her barracks this afternoon, I have good news and I have a proposal for her. I am just not sure she will agree so I am nervous. This is the first time I have 'bounced' an idea off of her. To this point, she has been teaching me about technology that she already understands, but today we will venture into what neither of us has ever seen before. No real plans or opinions for that matter have been officially addressed, just knowledge sharing and the forming of a working relationship.
Once we are seated across from each other I start the conversation. "I have good news. Peter's training is complete so I am confident that moving into my barracks tomorrow will work well."
She smiles and says, "I am pleased to hear that."
Then I continued, "I believe I understand all that you have taught me so far about technology, but I think we need Einstein's help to understand the technology fully. Keeping it between us on paper seems possible but what our forefathers didn't account for is it might not be a creator running the colony or a creator that is best suited to be the protégé. However, in my opinion, it is a creator that is needed to decipher some of this mess. I mean technology."
Shimmer smiled and nodded her head.
"As I stated, I understand it so far, but I can see why you might not have 'found time' to continue with it on your own. No offense intended but I believe I speak for both of us when I say I am getting to the end of my ability to comprehend this information without an interpreter. The creators discovered this technology and I believe they are the only ones who can completely unlock it for us now."
To my surprise, she simply says "I believe you're right Aurora. I believe this would be easier for both of us with a creator's help. I will send for Einstein later to brief him. He will join us tomorrow at midday. That should give you time to get settled next door. Now that I have your attention full-time, we have very pressing matters to attend to. You may have the rest of the day to prepare for your move. I will see you tomorrow after lunch."
I didn't expect to have any time to myself until after dinner so I wonder how I should spend my time until then.
I decided some time to relax by the lake will do me just fine. I go to my soon to be old barracks and grab a notebook and pencil. Then I head for the lake. I like to write poetry to express my feelings sometimes. I think that will be the perfect way to spend my time this afternoon.
What do they want?
What will become of us?
Who are the stalkers?
Who are we?
Why do they appear now?
Why do we care?
Will they triumph?
Will we reign supreme?
When will they make their next move?
When will we make another counter move?
Where are they now?
Where did we come from?
This isn't a poem. This is my mind rambling as I write down the words it is generating. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea. My mind is not clear enough to write anything of value.
I laid the paper and pencil on a nearby rock and decided to lie by the water and enjoy the afternoon sky. Ugh! I can't see the afternoon sky worth a darn through this 'dome' of protection.
I guess I will go with plan C. I head out on a meandering walk through the colony. Maybe just walking with no agenda will bring me some stress relief, and possibly some lighthearted conversation. I could use a cheerful story from someone about now.
