We have been training for a couple of months now and I think Destiny and I are flying pretty well together. We still have some getting used to each other to do but for the most part, it's pretty smooth. Today is probably our last official lesson. If we pass this then we will be considered trained. My understanding is the rest will just take time. The more we fly together the better we will be.
On our way out of the dome, I see the obstacle course in the sky. It appears to be a series of rings at different heights, that face in several different directions. They are suspended on uprights similar to goal posts on a football field except where the crossbar would be there is a very large circular ring. They look to be different colors as well. I am sure that has significance.
As we move closer I see only one other rider here with their harpy eagle. It's Shimmer and Ambrosia. I wonder why that is. Why is Shimmer here?
I pet the feathers on the back of Destiny's neck and whisper to her. "Well, this is it. All of our hard work was for today. Let's show them what we have learned."
Destiny bows her head slightly like she always does when she agrees and we continue walking towards Shimmer, Ambrosia, and Electra.
"Good morning Aurora," Shimmer says as we approach the group.
"Good morning everyone," I reply.
"As you can see the obstacle course is ready for you," Electra announces.
"I was noticing that," I said.
"Go ahead and warm up for a few minutes and then we will begin," Electra says as she points towards the rings in the sky.
Destiny and I wasted no time taking off. I think everyone on the ground needs a hairbrush or a comb about now. I think to myself while chuckling a little.
When Destiny lifts off it makes a bit of a breeze, especially below her. I found that out when Destiny and I arrived at training a bit early the other day. I dismounted and told Destiny to go ahead and stretch her wings while I walked around and stretched out a little. Destiny took off from right next to me and I was privy firsthand to her wind show.
After several minutes of warming up, we landed almost where we took off. Everyone was still gathered there.
"We are ready when you are Electra," I said once we landed.
"Okay then. The first time you need to fly through each ring only once. The pattern you choose is up to you entirely. Just do not miss a ring. As you pass through the rings they will change color to black. No matter what color they started as they will be black. Makes it pretty easy to know where you have been."
"Seems simple enough," I say.
Destiny and I look up at the rings while I figure out the best starting point. Once I determine the closest ring to the ground is a good starting spot I tell Destiny we need to move over by that lower ring.
Once we are in place we begin.
We went through the entire course quickly and did not miss a single ring. We then landed and walked back over to where Electra, Ambrosia, and Shimmer were standing.
Once we arrived I dismounted and took out a canteen while addressing everyone. "I do believe that was a success."
"I believe you are correct," Electra replied. "Once you have both rested a bit come see me for the second half of your test."
With that first part complete Destiny and I walked over to the watering trough of sorts that was set up for the harpy eagles. As Destiny got a drink I drank from my canteen.
