Lagos, Nigeria

Yazeed Malumfashi

His head whipped back to look at the man walking into the office, he looked away as his expression hardened.

"Nice to see you too, brother" the man said with sarcasm as he made himself comfortable on one of the many chairs in the huge office.

"Finally have permission to step out?"
Yazeed asked without looking up, he kept his head down as he went through some of the papers kept on his desk.

The man gulped something huge down his throat, he stared at his brother for almost two minutes before he looked away. Once again telling himself to calm down, he stood up from where he sat and walked to where Yazeed was sitting.

"Yep," He popped the p "Ba lallai gauraye kaman ku su gane ba" He said in a teasing manner as he peaked his head to peep at what he was doing.

Yazeed let out a loud and long hiss as he stood up, he agitatingly walked to where the bathroom door was, and passing him one more glare he slammed the door shut.

"Idan kaji haushi kayi aure mana! Perform ablution, it's already time for Asr let's go to the mosque" Mahmud shouted loud enough for him to hear.

~*~

The two brothers performed their salah together at the company mosque, it's been a long time they went to the mosque together. So both of them were happy- while Mahmud openly showed how happy he was, Yazeed's face was blank. He didn't show any emotion as he was still very angry with his brother.

As they walked back to Yazeed's office, none of them said anything. Each of them has something going on in his mind, so they kept mute for the whole walk.

Upon reaching their destination, Yazeed turned back to look at Mahmud
"Well?" He said as he opened the door "you can leave now."

"I will. But let's talk first." Mahmud said before brushing past him and walking into the office.

Yazeed used his two fingers to massage his forehead, he knew well enough that if he walked into that office it wouldn't end well between them, and for the sake of his mother's peace of mind, he wouldn't want that to happen.

Sparing the door one more glance, he turned around to leave.
"Where do you think you're going to?" Mahmud stopped him midway, "like I said we need to talk. Running away everytime is not going to solve anything"

He clenched his jaw and turned around to glare at the other man,
"There's nothing left for us to talk about! Unless I stop seeing that woman near us, there will never be"

Mahmud's gaze darkened and his heart started beating rapidly in his chest. He hated that his brother couldn't understand him.

"Let's just talk" He walked closer to him and took a hold of his hand, "Please"

Yazeed snatched his hand away and hissed before looking to the side. He stared at the empty wall for nearly two minutes trying to calm his self down before he walked past Mahmud and settled down on one of the Cushions.

"Let's make this quick, shall we?"

Mahmud flashed him a grateful smile before making himself comfortable on the cushion facing Yazeed.

"Uh.. I'm sorry for missing breakfast the other day. I truly didn't mean to, I had to take care of some... things that came up"

Yazeed let our a bitter laugh as he stared at his brother. He was starting to think was this the same person he shared his childhood with? Is this the same person that he looked up to most of his life?

"Listen Yaaya I truly don't care about anything else. We weren't asking for too much, just two hours of your day! Mama hasn't set her eyes on you in almost a month, even though she tries to hide it you can still see that she's worried and it's taking a toll on her. You're not the first person to get married and you will not be the last, I hope you know that?"

"I'm sorr-"

"I do not want you to apologize!" Yazeed cut him off "I just want you to do better, your parents should always be first before anything and when I say anything, I mean every single thing"

Mahmud knew very well what his brother was talking about, but not wanting to start another argument he ignored it.

"I know, I do okay? I'm trying Yazeed."

"Clearly not enough. Listen, I won't try to sugarcoat things for you because I'm tired Yaaya. Mama, Baba- heck even Jally who's not in the country is worried. If she is more important to you than we are then I think it's high time you cut off all bonds with us, that will be so much easier"

To be honest, Mahmud knew it would come to this so he let out a bitter smile and looked away,
"You both are important to me, she just needs me more than you do-"

"Is she crippled? Blind? Deaf? She can do things for herself Yaaya! She is not a child! Will she die if you leave her for just two hours?"

"She is pregnant, Yazeed."

"What?" Yazeed couldn't believe his ears.

"My wife is five months pregnant."
