Lagos, Nigeria.

Inaaya Abubakar.

"Aunty!" Asmu pulled on her hand, snapping her out of her thoughts.
Well, seemed like she had zoned out, again.

Umma gave her a worried look, before looking away, they have to talk later.

"What are you thinking about?" Asmu asked, sitting down on the carpeted floor beside her.

She shook her head,
"Nothing much, what were you saying?"

A grin spread across Asmu's face,
"Ehen! The other day at the dinner, I met this fine boy, Aunty he's so fine ehn"

She smiled at the dreamy look on Asmu's face.
"Ke bakya jin kunyan Umma kina irin wannan maganan"

Asmu only shrugged her off before she continued speaking about her dream guy.
"He even asked for my number, but he hasn't called yet. So, I'll be waiting"

"Asmu Allah ya sanya alkhairi, Nidai bari kiga" she said as she stood up.

"Where are you going?" Umma asked, pulling away the kasko Ummi had brought on the sofa while she was playing.

"To the kitchen, I have some content to shoot for my Instagram"

Umma nodded and sat back on the sofa, while Asmu and Ummita followed behind her.

It was only when she got to the kitchen that she realized they were following her so she turned around with a stern face and pointed at them,
"If you know you're going to disturb me you better go back"

Asmu smiled sheepishly pulling Ummita close to her,
"We will not disturb you, I promise"

She pulled her tripod which was always in the kitchen, she hardly used it anywhere else so she just kept it in the kitchen permanently to avoid worries.

"What are you going to make?" Asmu peeked at the fridge she just opened curiously.

Ummita was already sitted on the kitchen shelf with a huge spatula in her tiny hands, she swished the thing across carelessly time to time while humming to a Coco melon song.

"I think I'll make some filled doughnuts, they're easier to make" she replied

Asmu jumped up and down in excitement, clapping her hands together.

"I can't wait! Your filled doughnuts are to die for, Ouch!" She shrieked moving away from Ummita when she swished her spatula in her face, seems like she had gotten close to her without knowing in the breeze of excitement.

Inaaya snatched the thing away as she glared at the little girl,
"Apologize now!"

She kept her head down in remorse as she turned to look at Asmu who now had a deep scowl on her face for how the mother shouted at the little girl.

"Sorry Aunty"

"Oh my dear, it's fine. Don't worry let's cook hmm?" She gave her a big smile before she continued to bring out the things from out of the fridge for Inaaya.

Inaaya shook her head before she set up her phone on the tripod.

She fixed the neck of her hijab as she stared at the scowling man in front of her, something had told her she should run away and never look back, but she needed both the money and the job so she stayed back. Her boss is a cheerful person -- at least, she had seen him been cheerful wth the people he cared to be. But, when he is pissed you may want to stay away from him.

When she stood for ten minutes and he still hasn't said anything, she walked closer her legs trembling a long the way,
"Sir these are the papers that Mr Adebayo submitted yesterday. The meeting is said to be held at Town Hall 2pm, your ride is ready for you Whenever you're ready sir."

Without looking up the man pulled the paper away from her. He stayed quiet for a few minutes as he examined what was written in the papers, the deep scowl stayed on his face.

"Has my brother called?" He asked his tone flat.

Mufida who was startled by the sudden question moved back a little,
"N-no sir, he hasn't called." She answered her voice shaking a little as she tried to compose herself.

"Very well, then. You may leave, I'll be out in a few"

Without saying anything further she nodded and exited the office, her heart beating rapidly.

"Do you want more?" Inaaya asked the dreamy Asmu who was munching on the doughnut like her life defended on it, the side of her face was smudged with the white liquid, her face was a perfect mirror of Ummita's face.

"Yes please!" She grinned.

"Can I have more?" Ummita asked tilting her head to the left.

"No" Inaaya dismissed, her tone held finality and the little girl knew better than to object so she kept her head down and continued to eat what was left of her doughnuts.

Inaaya glanced at her as she handed Asmu two piece of Nutella filed doughnuts, she scanned the little girls expression and her heart squeezed. Looking away she let out a quiet sigh. People have always thought that she was hard on Ummita, Umma had told her that she was just a child and only needed to be corrected when she does something wrong. But, she knew the habits of who Ummita inherited.

Ummita's father was a stubborn and greedy man, he never let go of his habits no matter what, his nanny Ma Larai who had cater for him since he was a child told her his habits never died, he has been like that ever since he was a child and thats how he was going to grow old with his habits. Ummita inherited almost everything from her father--- starting from his asthma to his ways of doing things, she has his eyes so even the way he watches people degradingly, that's how Ummita watches them. If she isn't harsh and strict with the little girl, she is afraid she is going to grow up to be just like her father and that's what she fears the most.
