Finally | Arulmozi Varman x Vanathi

It was the next evening after Mandakini's death.Vanathi was in her balcony staring at the bypassers. She was thinking about Ponnian Selvan. The smile he had given her as she walked away from them before the bull incident. How he had came to catch her when she fell down. Her world had slowed down as she was met with his firm hands. She had slowly opened her eyes and was met with his eyes which were only few inches away from her's. They had stared at each other for some solid seconds. She could still remember the slight smile which had appeared on his face as she had looked at him. By remembering how close they had been she smiled by herself.

Then there was the stare down they have had yesterday at the prayer before the Mandakini incident had happened. She was just thinking about these instances when she heard a knock on her door.

Arulmozhi was walking around the corridors when he came across Vanathi's room. He lingered outside her room for a while, hesitant on whether he should go in or no. At last he decided to go in.

Even if the prince kept insisting that he didn't want to marry or didn't even liked Vanathi a bit, it was wrong. Yes, he didn't want to get married so soon but he still had a soft spot for Vanathi. He had fallen for her the same day they had met. She had misunderstood him as a yaanai paagan as he had came on an elephant.

It was quite known that she had a big crush on him and even his own Akka/older sister wanted them to get married.

He knocked on her door and he heard a distinct 'come in' from inside. He slowly opened the door and saw her standing by her balcony staring outside. She looked at him as he entered with confusion in her eyes.
'What was the prince here at this hour? ' she thought to herself as the prince closed the door behind him and started to near her.

As Verman went near where she was standing, both of them started to get little butterflies in their stomachs.
"What are you doing here? " Vanathi asked.
"Just wanted to talk with you, we weren't able to talk with each other from when you visited me in Singhala. I heard from Akka that you started your journey to meet me in Singhala alone? And was fierce when Anirudha kaka tried to stop you? They even tried to threaten you right? "
"Yes, but it wasn't much. When I heard that you were alive in Singhala I wasn't able to control myself."
Vanathi said while looking him in the eye. He still remembered the look she had given him when he had catched her in his hands, saving her from the canal. It was a mix of pure love and adoration. This was the same look.

Just then he remembered that Poonkuzlai had mentioned something about an oath when he had saved both the girls from the crocodile.
"Vanathi... "
"Han"
"After the crocodile incident Poonkuzlai was talking about some oath you made, what was all that about? "
"Yes, about that... "

Vanathi cleared her throat and started..
" It was when Poonkuzlai indirectly accused me of loving you or wanting to marry you because of the throne. After she had accused me of this, I was not able to contain my anger and took an oath with Akka, the sky and the earth as my witnesses that if you had survived and I am fortunate enough to be your wife, I will never sit on the throne of Thanjavur.

This oath shoked the young prince. It was certainly not what he had thought she would say, or even wished. A small "oh" Left his mouth as he put his hands on the railing and faced outside, away from her face. He was hurt by this revolution. He had hoped that one day Vanathi will be his wife. And had came here to discuss that only with her.

"I must say that you have come a long way from the girl who fainted when I walked past her, to a girl who put her life on the line a few times for me." He said
Vanathi just smiled on this statement and she too joined him in standing by the railing looking somewhere in the sky. She took a look on her yaanai paagan and saw a bit of sadness and worry on his face.

Just then he mustered his courage and said...
"You know, before you almost got killed by that bull, Akka and I had made a deal" He turned his head around and looked at her "Because of a reason; you can ask her; She had me say that I will marry someone, someday but the bet I put in front of her was that I will marry the girl whome I love and she should oblige to it and... "
"And? " Vanathi asked she said as a small smile appeared on her face.
"Aand... I.. was.. well.. thinking that maybe you.... or.... you know.... only if you... want......"he said flustered with a light blush in his face.

" Hmm" Vanathi said while she looked away from him towards the sky. A very obvious blush crept up her face as breathed out loud. She was happy by what he had said and all the butterflies were roaring with happiness in her stomach. She was unable to register the fact that The Ponniyin Selvan was flustered and talking like this because if her.

"I know this isn't the right time, but the thing is, after mother (Mandakini) died in my father's arm, I was able to tell that you should tell the person you love before it's too late. And her passing away made me realise how important some people are to you.. And..... ummm..... I started to think after all this mess is settled you and I can.. " He was still looking at her as she gave a slight nod and took his palm in her own.

He was just started to load this fact in his mind when there was an urgent knock on the door. She let go of his hands and they looked at each other in concern. She rushed towards the door and opened it. To her shock it was Kundavai. She looked behind Vanathi toward her little brother Arul Mozhi and took a few steps towards him. "Thambi... " She said taking a step forward. Vanathi and Arulmozi both became concerned and alert at once because neither had Kundavai been a little concerned that her thampi and her Best friend were with each other. Nor had she teased them. "Akka... " Arulmozhi began. "Thampi... Anna" She wasn't able to complete her sentence as her eyes told them what had happened. " Their Anna had passed away. (Anna as in Aditya Karikalan)

I was going to write it but on their request I did it early and I really enjoyed writing it! I just hope that you guys liked it too. Instances mentioned are from the book. If any confusion let me know! :)
