Guess who's back?God I hate the smell of this place.
Despite my injury, I was conscious on my way to the hospital this time. Elizabeth insisted I go to Walter Reed despite my objections, anytime someone goes to Walter Reed it's only a matter of time before the press is notified. But the others agreed with her decision.
"They have the best Sel, and you need it especially since that bastard hurt you right were it mattered most, you're lucky he didn't kill you." Hank sat to my left and Connor to my right holding my hand in the EMS truck.
"I don't disagree with if they can provide adequate treatment. But it hasn't even been 24 hours since we signed the documents and we're already having problems. The press is gonna spin this and public opinion of Deviant Nation will be affected."
"If anything the public will support us even more, it's Wilson who is going to have to worry about the way the public views him. You're the victim here Selene, another human attacked you for supporting us." Simon spoke up from the bench and the others nodded. They didn't want to follow us in a cab.
And now I was here in a hospital bed, again, with an android doctor doing the usual head trauma tests. The fog had already started to set in and I could feel the point of impact beating in sync with my heart, which was elevated along with my blood pressure. Fucking A I'm 22 and I have high blood pressure.
"Okay Miss Anderson, we're going to take you down for a MRI, it'll take just a minute then we'll have you back with your family." He smiled at me then led me down the corridor after Connor gave me a kiss and the others hugged me.
After the injury was confirmed the doctor and team of nurses convened around my bed with the others behind them, my mind flashed back to the Senate chamber for a second before the doctor spoke.
His grey eyes looked serious along with his copper toned skin. The nurses shared the same expression.
"You're a lucky girl Miss Anderson, had that door been made of different wood we might not even be talking, you're showing clear symptoms of post-concussion syndrome and you do have some bleeding on the brain, we're going to give you an IV blood thinner and the nanobots in it will stop it from clotting and disloging. You of course will need to be on strict bed rest for the next few weeks. No internet, no reading, and keep light and sound exposure to a minimum." He kept his gaze on me when I shook my head.
"That's gonna be a problem, the press is going to be reaching out to me to tell them what happened. They're going to want a press conference."
"I'll handle that for you Selene."
I looked up and Elizabeth was standing in the doorway, the doctors stood up immediately and moved so she could come closer, she sat one the chairs closer to me and placed her hand over mine.
"Thank you Madam President, but you don't need to do that."
"I do Selene, you were attacked under my watch and in my home, you are an ambassador and considered part of the Deviant Nation, but you are also a United States citizen, and when one of our own are attacked we stand in front to protect them. I'm sure the rest of you would agree." She looked over at Simon and the rest of the group, who nodded in agreement.
"Alright then, but I want one of you to speak with President Warren when the time comes, the last thing we need is giving the press that this incident has affected our partnership with the US."
"I'll do it Selene." Josh spoke up.
I nodded and the rest smiled.
"Well it seems we have a plan. I'll let you rest Selene, don't be afraid to call if you need anything." Elizabeth stood and gave my hand a squeeze before departing.
