The house was dark when they arrived. Kaveh had broken his arm and bruised his ribs in the fight with the fungi, so they had to wait in Caravan Ribat until he got better. Now they had finally arrived at the capital.
Things had been awkward since the confession. Alhaitham felt like this wasn't even Kaveh anymore. Always watching him, keeping some distance. Not that he was any different. He just didn't know how to act. Normal seemed wrong now, for so much had changed. But what then? Now they were back home. Would living together feel different now?
Kaveh went in before him, as he lingered in his thoughts. Usually moving in together was a really big step in a relationship. "Just as I thought", Kaveh said. "This house is a mess without meheeeeee!" In the blink of a moment Alhaitham grabbed Kaveh's arm, who had tripped in some papers on the floor, and pulled him back. With a loud thud his head hit the wall. "Ouch!", he groaned. "Are you okay?", Kaveh asked. "Yeah, I..." Then he realized Kaveh was lying in his arms. Instinctively he had pulled him close, protecting him from the impact of the fall. He was close, so close. Carefully he picked himself up until he sat with the back against the wall. "Are you really fine?", Kaveh asked again, trying to turn around to look at him. "Yes... Don't look at me!" Quickly he pulled his arms around the blonde one's waist to prevent him from moving. He didn't want Kaveh to see him all flustered. He still wasn't used to not being able to hide his feelings. "O... Okay, then we stay like this?"K
"Mmh" was the answer he got. It was a weird but strangely comfortable situation. He leaned back against Alhaitham's chest. After a while, he could sense him relax, resting his head on his shoulder. Kaveh could feel Alhaitham's heart pounding, alongside with his own. Seconds passed in silence. The warmth seeped through his back, through his belly, where Alhaitham's hands lay. This was real. Really real. "Alhaitham", he whispered. "What is it?" - "I want to cry." He was happy, unbelievably happy, but in this moment, all of the memories somehow flushed his mind. His father dying, his mother leaving him behind, his own feelings of worthlessness and despair. That night out in the woods, where he had felt so incredibly lonely, like the whole world had abandoned him. It somehow all came together now, in the moment where he finally found a place he belonged. Home wasn't a place, home was a feeling, a person, Alhaitham. "Then cry. I'm here for you", he said.A
It was sudden and he hadn't really expected it but it actually had Ben obvious. For how long had he known Kaveh and never seen him cry. He had always been so cheerful and positive, despite all of his experiences. Luck had almost never been on his side. He remembered his conversation with Cyno and how he had found Kaveh out in the forest. He knew Kaveh had been crying there. He had heard him cry countless times at night but never barged in. And now he wanted to share these feelings with him? "You idiot! Just never cry alone anymore, you hear me?" Alhaitham almost screamed it against Kaveh's tears. He grabbed him tighter, pulled him closer. He should have done this years ago!
Slowly the noise faded until Kaveh fell asleep, exhausted. "What would you do without me, huh?" Alhaitham smiled peacefully before he picked up his boyfriend, carrying him to his room. His boyfriend. He liked the sound of that.
Carefully he placed Kaveh on the bed, spreading the blanket over him. The blonde haired guy was breathing steadily, mumbling inaudible words. Alhaitham watched him for a while until he couldn't restrain himself anymore. Hesitantly he reached out, caressing Kaveh's cheek. "You're such a mess sometimes." Slowly he bent forward and gave him a kiss on the forehead. "But you are my mess."
