Chapter 5

"Felix, Brooklyn. From Long Island, New York." Who was that? Why am I in a hospital? What is happening? "She opened her eyes! Oh, Brooklyn, thank goodness you're okay," says a random woman. She's standing next to someone who I'm pretty sure is a doctor.

"Who are you, and what in the world is happening?" I frighteningly ask.

"Brooklyn, I'm Mrs. Hart, your first period teacher, and this is Dr. Ellis. I totally understand that you're scared right now, but you're going to be okay. First of all, to explain what happened, it started about a half hour ago. Logan, one of your classmates, found you passed out on the field on her way to class. She came to get me as fast as she could, and an ambulance came to take you to the hospital. I came to see what happened and to make sure everything went okay."

"Brooklyn!!! Oh my gosh, honey, are you okay?" Mom says as she dashes through the door.

"She's okay, Mrs. Felix. She was only unconscious for about ten minutes," Mrs. Hart says as Mom pulls me into her arms.

"I feel fine now, but what happened was really weird. When I couldn't find the middle school building after a long time, I got really worried and started to feel out of control! Everything started getting blurry and quiet, and I felt desperate to know the time." Dr. Ellis, Mrs. Hart, and Mom give each other a concerned look.

As I wait for the adults to finish their stressful whispering, I continue to think about how weird and scary this situation is.

"Sweetie, we're not exactly sure what happened, but you may have had a very severe... panic attack. That means that you got so stressed that you just started to, uh, lose control. And because of how overwhelming this morning has been, and to make sure you're at home if this attack happens again, you're going to stay home from school today."

So that's the reason? Honestly, the fact that I can pass out just from being really nervous scares me more than the fact that I just woke up in a hospital.
