"Brooklyn! Wake up!"
"Huh? W-what?"
"Come on, Brookie, you're going to miss the bus!" The first day of school already! Didn't summer just start? I've read enough books and done enough research to know not to look forward to middle school. Especially if you've been homeschooled all your life! Not one person doesn't struggle in middle school.
"Ugh. Okay, Mom, I'm getting up." There's no point in begging my parents not to go for the billionth time. I don't need another lecture about how going to a real school gives more life-skills than anything.
I drag myself out of bed and go straight to the clock. 7:02 AM. There's no way I can get up this early every day. I'm used to sleeping until 8:08 or 9:03.
Once I've brushed my teeth and gotten dressed, I meet my mom, dad, and sister, Salish, for breakfast downstairs.
"You girls are going to have the best time in seventh and fifth grade! You'll learn new things and make lots of new friends," Dad says. Mom nods in agreement.
"I don't even know how to make friends! The only kids I've spent time with in a long time are Salish and her friends," I say.
"Don't worry, Brookie. You'll figure it out," Mom says.
"Yeah, right," I say under my breath.
We walk outside just as the bus pulls up.
"Have a great first day, you two!" says Mom.
"Call me when you get home to let me know how it went!" says Dad.
