As I walk to Science the next day, I almost forget to look where I'm going because I'm staring down at my schedule, memorizing when each period starts and ends, but thankfully I catch myself before I walk past my classroom.

"Hi, Brooklyn. I'm sorry you had to miss the first day of school, but I hope you know that we're going to make it as comfortable for you as we can here, especially considering the incident."

"Thanks, Mrs. Hart."

Everyone is staring awkwardly at me as I walk to my desk.

"Uh, hi. I'm Logan. I just wanted to make sure you're okay. I mean, from, you know," says a girl with curly red hair and freckles.

Oh my gosh, someone finally spoke to me! That was so nice, but... I don't even know what to say.

"Um, Brooklyn?"

"Oh, uh, sorry. Yeah, I'm okay... I think... but thanks for asking."

"No problem."

"What are you guys talking about?" says a boy sitting behind us with fluffy brown hair.

"Oh, uh, nothing," says Logan.

"I'm trying to be nice!" the boy says in an oddly annoyed tone.

"What do you mean? Why are you mad?" says Logan.

"I'm not mad!!!" he says, but it sure sounds like he is.

Mrs. Hart comes over and tells the boy to take some deep breaths, acting like this is a normal thing for him to do.

Well that was weird. I can't really tell if this boy is just odd or if I haven't had enough social experience and this is a normal thing to happen. It really could be either.
