I want to spend my life with a girl like you

Ba ba ba ba, ba ba ba

And do all the things that you want me to

Ba ba ba ba, ba ba ba

Till that time has come that we might live as one

Can I dance with you?

-with a girl like you, the Troggs

My heart was beating against my chest as I walked away. I had been so close to her and still hadn't kissed her. What was wrong with me? But I had asked her out on a date. At least I think I did. I hope she perceived it that way. She did. I was less than two inches away from her face, she had to have perceived it that way.

It was only Monday so I had four days to wait until the Hogsmeade trip. All week I was distracted. In class I glanced at her constantly. One time I caught her looking back, she blushed and looked down. It was adorable.

A meals I sat away from my friends. I didn't want to talk to them anymore. I actually ate this week. I hadn't had much of and appetite the past few weeks but I was in a better mood now. I knew I was getting more skinny, not in the good way.

I made it through the week without speaking to her and it was finally Saturday. All the students gathered and waited to be released. Me and Hermione stood on opposite sides of the crowed so that no one would suspect anything.

I was angry that we had to do this. We were in different houses but that didn't matter. Gryffindors and Hufflepuffs dated all the time. And Gryffindors and Ravenclaws. Occasionally there was even a Slytherin-Hufflepuff couple. But I suppose a Slytherin-Gryffindor couple would be different. Anyway, we weren't a couple yet and she might end up changing her mind about me.

We were released into freedom. All the other kids raced towards the town but her and I lagged behind. We waited until the teachers were out of sight then fell into step next to eachother.

Hermione was wearing a dark green peacoat and jeans with short boots. She was also wearing a grey beanie, her hair poofed out of it at the bottom. She looked beautiful as always.

I was wearing black pants, a dark grey wool coat and loafers. She walked right beside me, our arms were almost touching. On the roads the snow was flat and hard but on either side of the street is was piled up in mounds. We walked to the Three Broomsticks and got butterbeers. The restaurant was warm and cozy, we sat across from each other in a booth.

On the way here we had only spoken pleasantries but now we started to actually talk.

"Okay, what's your favorite color?"

"What?" Is this a test?

"Thats what people do when they like each other," she smiled, amused, "they get to know each other."

"Okay, um, I don't know?" I answered uncertainly.

"Okay, mines orange. Favorite Book?"

"I really liked the Hobbit. Even though it's a muggle book." I said honestly.

"Me toooooo" She practically jumped out of her seat with excitement. Her happiness nearly took my breath away. She'd never been happy around me before.

"Favorite dwarf?" She asks.

"Um, Fili."

"Why?"

"'Cause he's loyal." For some reason she smiled really weirdly at this. "Yours?"

"Kili. Because he uses a bow opposed to an ax like all the other dwarves. I like to think that he is the rebel of the family." She smiled at me and blushed. I smiled back. "Favorite movie"

"Movie?" What's that?

"mmhm." She mumbled as she took as sip of butterbeer.

"I don't know what that is," I blushed a little and hoped that it didn't show.

"Oh yeah. Muggles have this thing. It's like the painting as Hogwarts, pictures that move. But the movies are recorded and they tell a story. I'll have to show you one sometime. . .if you want." I didn't know what to say so I just smiled and nodded. She smiled to.

"What's your favorite band?" She continued the get-to-know-you game.

"I like the Weird Sisters?"

"Yeah, they're good. I like this band called My Chemical Romance. You probably don't know them." I shook my head. "I'll have to show you them sometimes to." I nodded. "Oh," her face lit up. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a tiny black box with a white string coming out of it. She tapped the box and it lit up. She tapped it again. The string split into two and she took the two ends. I flenched at she held them towards me then stuck them into my ears. I flinched again when sound came out of them. The music was good, not to far off from the Weird Sisters. I smiled and nodded, indicating that I liked it. She smiled.

We walked outside. She had slipped the box into my pocket and let me keep the strings in my ears. She brought us hot chocolate and while she was paying I pulled out the box. The song changed and I tapped it until it lit up and displayed words. This song was called Where is My Mind by the Pixies. I liked this song to.

She came back and handed me the drink. We walked down the snowy streets, looking into shops. I still had the strings in my ears (which Hermione told me were called earbuds and the box was called an I-pod) but a slow, quiet song was playing now so I could still focus on Hermione and the town. Our hands were almost touching, brushing together, fingers tapping.
