Heartless {HIGH AND LOW}

Chapter 8

Sora POV

Walking outside I see the others gathered around waiting for me, I approach them and send an annoyed smile towards Chiharu and Tettsu. "What the hell was that?" my voice echoing the irritation I felt.

The two look at me with guilty smiles, Tettsu steps forward with a slightly bowed head, "They told us to," he gestures to where Yamato stood with Cobra by his side.

They glared at Tettsu for ratting them out, silently threatening him before turning their eyes to me.

I see Dan awkwardly shuffling away from the two to stand near Chiharu instead.

Staring at my brother and his best friend with a raised brow, "Well?" I stare at them with narrowed eyes.

"Are you going to tell me why you sent dumb and dumber after me?" I ask, unimpressed by their silence. They look at each other for a moment before turning back to me.

Cobra answers, "We were about to leave to go get a drink but we couldn't leave you behind with.. them," he says looking towards the building.

Turning to where he was staring I saw multiple heads duck down from one of the windows, I recognised one of them to be the big bald guy.

Ignoring what I just saw, I looked back at them with my arms crossed stepping towards Cobra until I was in front of him, "I can handle myself, Junpei," My voice low as his eyes meet mine.

We stayed like that for a few moments before Yamato cleared his throat with a side eye towards Cobra.

We start walking towards where their bikes are parked when I realise Nijiro wasn't here. I look at Tettsu who walks between Dan and Chiharu, "Tetz," I call out.

He looks to me confused, "Yeah," he answers. Looking around I ask, "Where's Nijiro, he was with you looking for Cobra wasn't he?".

Realisation crosses his face as he lets out a 'ohhh', "I knew I forgot something," he mumbles. I don't see how he could forget Nijiro though, Sannoh's very own short piece of sarcastic sunshine.

He looks back at me with a reassuring smile, "He's fine, don't worry. He's with Naomi because his parents wouldn't stop blowing up his phone but..." his smile falters as his words trail off..

Seeing his smile drop worry blooms in my chest, "What? Tettsu what's wrong?" It may have sounded like I was demanding for an answer, which I technically was, but I was worried about my best friend. I'd kill for him.

Tettsu sent a cautious look my way, "I can't be the one to tell you but he might need a place to stay"

Confused and anxious, I rushed forward in front of Cobra and Yamato, "Can you guys take me to Itokan please?" I hurriedly ask. They both look at me, one in confusion and the other in understanding, "Yeah sure".

Yamato looks at us confused, "I thought we were getting a drink?" he questioned.

Rolling my eyes I grab him by his ear and drag him towards the bikes, "We're going to check if Nijiro is okay, you and your alcoholic tendencies can wait," I snarked out at him, stopping in front of Cobra's bike.

He winced with a frown as he rubbed his ear, "Okay. No need for violence, Sora". He continues to rub his ear as everyone walks towards us with amused expressions . He suddenly looks up, "Wait, what's wrong with Nijiro?" He asks, concerned.

Sighing I look at Cobra and the guys as they stand next to their bikes, "I- I don't know but I need to see him".

"I don't mean to interrupt but how are we getting to Itokan," a shy Chiharu calls out with a raised hand. I looked around and realised he was right, Yamato, Chiharu and I ran here.

Meaning we'll have to ride with someone else. Yamato realises this as well, "I'm not riding at the back" he says glaring at everyone.

Rolling my eyes, I mentally face palmed at Yamato. Shaking my head I move to hop on a random bike when my wrist is grabbed and I'm pulled to stand next to the guy.

Looking up to the owner of the hand on my wrist I see Cobra looking towards Dan and Tettsu playing rock paper scissors to see who rides with who. "Hurry up" I demand while glaring at them.

"Rock! Paper! Scissors! Shoot!" They scream. Looking at their hands Dan has rock and Tettsu has scissors. "Yes," Dan cheers happily while running to Chiharu, "You and me buddy let's go" he says, pushing him towards his bike. Yamato walks over to Tettsu, "You're at the back".

A few moments later

Arriving at Itokan I quickly hop off Cobra's bike and head towards the door. Bursting through the door I see Nijiro laughing with Naomi and sighed in relief. I rounded towards him and hugged his back.

Laughing in surprise he turns around to hug me back, "What's this for?" He asks quietly as the bell to the door rings. I just hug him tighter, "You're okay". He smiles at me while letting go, "Tettsu told you?" .

I shake my head in denial, "He said he couldn't. It wasn't his to tell". Nijiro looks behind me softly smiling at Tettsu, "Thank you," he says gratefully.

"But what's wrong. Did they do something? I'll kill them if they did something to hurt you wh-l" I get cut off by Nijiro shushing me. "It's okay, but I might need a place to stay if that's alright with you," he quietly asks, looking between Yamato and I.

I turn back to Yamato to see him nod his head in agreement already knowing what I'm going to answer, turning back to Nijiro I smile at him, "What else would we say. No? You've always been family to us"

Nijiro tearfully chuckles in relief, "Thank you," he says hugging me. I look at Yamato and gesture for him to join, he walks over and engulfs Nijiro and I into his arms laughing.

Looking up I see the guys watching us along with Naomi, each of them wearing a small smile even Cobra.
Laughing I hold one of my arms out gesturing for them to join. Dan and Tettsu run over and wrap their arms around us followed by Naomi and a hesitant Chiharu, with Cobra ending up behind me leaning his head on my shoulder.

"Can we get that drink now?" A muffled voice asks.

We break apart laughing while turning our heads to where the voice came from and see Dan hitting Tettsu over the head with his hand. "Drink? I'd like to join," Nijiro says putting his hand up. "Yeah, can we?" I ask with an innocent grin. Yamato looks at us with a stern glance, "Just this once," he says, putting a finger up.

"Please. Can we go. I swear I-" Nijiro starts off when he suddenly stops with wide eyes. "Wait, you said yes," he states. Yamato nods his head, "Just don't tell mom," he replies back. Nijiro nods as he glances between Naomi and Cobra, "And you two are okay with this?" he questions suspiciously. Cobra shrugs while Naomi says, "You guys have had a long day, one drink won't hurt".

Nijiro cheers with a grin, high fiving me.

"Can we go now? My teeth are starting to hurt".

A/N - The last edited chapter. Chapter 9 should be out soon, maybe tomorrow. But we'll see.
