Chapter Eleven

-Kallie-

I was interrupted from my reading with a loud sound of chip-crunching in my ear. I look up to see Luke leaning over my shoulder with a bag of chips staining the tips of his fingers. He plops one more dill pickle chip in his mouth, the creator of the obnoxious sound, and glances at me for a split second. I flinched so hard that I almost slipped out of my seat when I first saw him. His bright eyes were the same color as the ocean.

He breaths out slowly, and takes his lip ring in between his teeth. "I've been meaning to ask you this for a while, but is there something bothering you?"

I pause for a minute, taken aback by his unusual question. "What do you mean?"

"Like...I don't know...you just don't seem...happy. Most musicians are excited all the time and pumped up for everything. You're different, I can tell. Why is that?" He fumbles with his words. I look over to the other side of the table and see Michael jamming out with his headphones covering his ears and his air guitar out.

I would never think that out of all people, Luke Hemmings wants to see inside my personality and how I act to this day. Well, they're going to have to know sometime, why not now.

"Are most musicians bullied and depressed?" I say in a low voice.

"Do most musicians have parents who hate each other, and you?"

I would think he would be startled, but the look in his eyes is just sad. He slowly breaths in and out, hangs his head for a moment, but looks back up to meet my gaze.

"I really wish that there weren't more people like me." He whispers, looking ashamed of himself. This left me startled. Luke was bullied?

"I know what you're thinking," He says. "How could a mega celebrity rocker like me get bullied back home and become depressed?"

It became quiet for a couple of minutes. I decide to be the one to speak up this time.

"What did you do?" I ask. I realize that I know nothing about his background, except that he was from Sydney.

"What?"

"How did you overcome them? I mean, the bullies?" I ask. He runs his hand through his perfect quiffed hair, and frowns.

"I didn't." He said quietly. "I was stubborn enough to have someone do it all for me. I regret it every day."

I wasn't aware of something. Instead of looking at me now, his stare was set on something straight ahead. When I imitated it, there was something in clear shot of where he was looking to.

Ashton.

"He's a great guy. He deserves so much more than he has. You know what he deserves?"

"What?" I ask, curious. I never expected this from someone like Ashton.

"He deserves someone that loves him."

We were sat on the couch together in the plane, when we got some crazy news from their tour manager.

"There's a crazy amount of fans waiting for you. Like, almost 500." He says into our circle, earning some astonished looks from all of the boys. I kind of felt like the odd one out, considering that none of them know who I am or even know that I exist.

"So it's probably not good for Kallie to go with you through the airport." He admits, looking over to me in the corner. I look down to the ground, feeling all eyes around on me.
