Blackkit bounded after Brindlekit as they left the nursery, Hawkkit following close behind. Foxkit also followed them a few minutes after, since none of the kits were listening to whatever he'd been saying. The four kits padded over to the centre of the camp. Blackkit glanced around. It was still early dawn, so a few cats were still sleeping. Though most of the warriors were out on patrol, Blackkit could see some clanmates sitting around, sharing prey or gossiping.
He turned his attention back to Brindlekit. The brown speckled she-kit was perched on a rock, gazing down at Blackkit, Hawkkit and Foxkit. "Lets play clan!" Brindlekit decided, her tiny tail waving happily in the air. "I will be Brindlestar, the leader of SkyClan, of course." She leapt down from the rock, humming, then turned her amber gaze to Blackkit.
"You can be my deputy, Blackkit!" She stated, which made Foxkit hiss in protest. "I wanna be deputy!" He whined. Brindlekit rolled her eyes. "Fine, Foxkit, you can be deputy. Blackkit, you can be medicine cat." She said with a sigh. Blackkit frowned. "A medicine cat? I don't want to be the medicine cat. All they do is heal cats. Thats boring." He muttered.
"There's a lot more to being a medicine cat, Blackkit." A voice meowed. Blackkit perked up and glanced over his shoulder. It was Hazelpaw, a pale ginger and white colourpoint she-cat with large ears. She was the medicine cat, Runningdawn's, apprentice. She currently was holding a bundle of herbs, which she carefully placed down so she could speak. "A medicine cat has one of the most important roles in the clan. They have to communicate with StarClan." She stated.
Blackkit shivered. "I don't want to speak to StarClan. They seem scary." He mumbled. Hazelpaw tilted her head, then laughed softly. "They aren't scary. They're our ancestors." She explained. "They guide our paws. They decide our destiny." "Exactly! Thats-" Blackkit began, though was interrupted by a yowl from across the camp, likely her mentor calling her. Hazelpaw quickly picked up the herbs, dashing over to the medicine den.
The kits watched her leave before Brindlekit turned back to Blackkit. "You can be the ShadowClan leader, then, Blackkit!" She told him, and didn't give him any time to protest, instead turning to Hawkkit. "You can be Blackkit's deputy." Hawkkit nodded eagerly, padding over and sitting beside Blackkit. "We need warriors before we start." Foxkit stated, glancing around, then perked up.
"Tansypaw! Amberpaw! Asterpaw!" He called to three of the clan's apprentices, who were sitting outside the apprentice den and chattering like starlings. The three glanced over to the kits, and Tansypaw stood, followed by the two she-cats. "Hey, kits!" The black tom greeted with a grin, sitting down as Amberpaw and Asterpaw meowed their greetings. Foxkit padded confidently over to them.
"Can youse play clan with us? Brindlekit is SkyClan leader, and Blackkit is ShadowClan leader. Me and Hawkkit are their deputies, but we need warriors!" Foxkit stated, grinning up at the three apprentices. Tansypaw's whiskers twitched with amusement. He glanced to the other apprentices, who nodded, then glanced back at Foxkit.
"Sure, we'll play. Which clans do you want us in?" He asked. Foxkit parted his jaws to speak, but Brindlekit interrupted. "Tansypaw can be ShadowClan, Amberpaw and Asterpaw can be in SkyClan!" She decided. "Why do we get both the she-cats?" Foxkit started to complain, though Blackkit interrupted him.
"We only have one warrior. Isn't that unfair?" Blackkit meowed, frowning. He glanced around the camp, then perked up when he saw a familiar black she-cat. "Mama! Mama!" He called, and Ebonytail glanced up, then smiled, padding over.
Blackkit trotted over to his mother, grinning up at her. "Mama, can you play clan with us? We need one more warrior." He told her. Ebonytail glanced up at the other kits and the three apprentices, then back down at Blackkit, chuckling softly. "Sure. Only for a little while, though." She told him. Blackkit grinned happily, bouncing up and down on the spot.
Foxkit let out a whine. "That's unfair! Ebonytail is a full grown warrior AND the deputy AND your mother!" He protested. Ebonytail's whiskers twitched with amusement. "Don't worry, little Foxkit. I'll be an apprentice in this game of clan, if that makes you feel like you sre better." She purred. Foxkit grumbled, but didn't complain any further.
"Can we play now?" Brindlekit asked impatiently, jumping to her paws. Without waiting for a reply, she leapt back onto the rock. "This will be SkyClan camp." She stated, then glanced around the camp before nodding to a tree stump halfway across camp. "That can be ShadowClan's. Go over there, and then we can start."
Blackkit nodded. "Come, warriors!" He meowed to Hawkkit, Tansypaw and Ebonytail. He turned and trotted over to the tree stump, his tiny tail held high in the air. Hawkkit eagerly chased after him, followed by Tansypaw and Ebonytail. Blackkit leapt onto the tree stump, watching as the three sat in front; Ebonytail crouched to be closer to their height.
Blackkit was about to speak, before a screech interrupted him. "Hey! ShadowClan fox-hearts!" Foxkit cried, racing over to them. Brindlekit was chasing after him. "Foxkit, that isn't how you play!" She tried to protest, but it was no use. Foxkit launched himself at Hawkkit, ignoring the screeches from Brindlekit and Pearwhisker, who was watching for the nursery and didn't seem very happy about Foxkit using the term 'fox-heart'.
The two tom-kits tumbled together on the ground for a moment. Blackkit stood, about to say something, but was interrupted by a screech from the nursery. "Someone, quick, get Runningdawn! Foxglovechirp's kits are coming!"
