The Largest Wing

Celaris. There it is. Finally we are back home. As the others land and secure the landing spot Rashter slowly angles down for the landing. With the signal given Rashter lands as well. Surprisingly when I unbuckle and help the fully armored Sha'nok down the saddle I'm not escorted to the council to answer for my latest disobedience. I go to my room and start unpacking when I hear a knock on my door. As I open it I see the paperwork is just delivered and it is a lot.
At first it is just the battle reports. I fill them all in as well as my memory can recall it. However as I reach the second half I notice it is another transfer request. I'm surprised as I thought it was all paperwork from the battle. I put the file to the side to grab the next as I see it is another transfer request. The entire remainder of the papers is transfer requests. For a moment I think I'm about to lose my entire squad until I read them all. Only the human brute wishes to leave, however eight others wish to join my squad. Four Elves, after hearing about the battle of the Emerald Realm, two Dwarves, an Ork and a Lamia all request to join my squad. When I got all eight files in front of me my mouth drops open.
Eventually when Sha'iva and Flashee come to check on me after I didn't come down for dinner they find me still staring at all the files. 'What is this? I thought you knew your paperwork by now...'
I hand her over a single file. 'Just read this and you will understand.'
Flashee at that moment looks through the other files, finding the transfer request of the human. 'Of course the human leaves. He feels intimidated in such a varied group...'
Then Sha'iva hands her the file she just read and grabs another. She quickly reads through it and stares at the remaining six. 'Are these all...'
I nod weakly. 'One request to transfer to another squad, and eight requests to join our squad. All are signed by the respective Wing Leaders already.'
Flashee drops the files she is holding in her hands on the desk. 'That would make us the largest wing! People know you are a worthy leader now, Wing Leader. You will command fear in the battle against our enemies now. Even the Ork Tribes will respect you with such a following.'
I nod. 'It is a lot of responsibility. I'll need to send for another Lamia armor and test all these new members... but this is amazing. To lead a wing of fourteen means I'll be the most combat worthy Wing Leader around... wow.'
Sha'iva nods. 'Sister, you can do it. You can lead this wing. I know you will find a way to lead them well.'
Looking at my Wing I'm torn. These are so many people. Can I lead them? Five Elves, five Dwarves, three Orks and a Lamia and in the future probably another Elf and Lamia. I then get an idea. 'All right. For flight patterns I'll split you all up in four groups. Noruk, you remain my right hand. You'll have your brother fly behind you in the normal positions. Then Sha'iva, you'll fall under Noruk but you'll command four of the squad. Flashee, you remain my left hand and have Treknal flying right behind you.'I then point to the Lamia. 'I would like you to lead the remaining four under Flashee. This wing form will remain for now, however I will rework it if the need arises for it.'
They nod. Then I turn to Flashee and Noruk. 'All right. I give you the task of assigning the positions. I want a triple V formation as flying formation, an extension in with in combat formation and I want an alternating straight line formation. We'll take off in five.'
Together they start splitting up the squad into two groups and in tandem with their under commanders they get the wing laid out into a formation. As soon as they got it worked out I hoist myself into my saddle. 'Mount up. I want to see what you all can do.'
