Set 9 years before Season 1

JJ

"What?... I went to Sunday School."

☆☆☆

JJ was only seven.

Seven years old.

Tears trickled down his cheeks as he walked along the pavement, hands shoved into his pockets.

He was alone, but that was nothing new, and to be quite honest, he was used to it.

It was a cloudy Sunday morning, and like most Sundays, JJ had had to quickly leave his house for fear of upsetting his Dad in any which way.

It had been around two years now since his Mum had just got up and left, and ever since then, his Dad hadn't been the nicest.

From what JJ could understand, he drunk a lot, and did something else that caused him to act weird, which JJ couldn't quite figure out.

When his Dad drunk, he could get extremely mad, not every time, but it had happened enough to make JJ terrified of him.

Terrified of his own father.

He had been heavily drinking the night before, out and about, not at home, which JJ was glad of, but when he had heard him stumbling in at 8 o'clock this morning, he decided to make himself scarce, and had quickly climbed out his bedroom window before he suffered the wrath of his drunk Dad.

As he walked, JJ couldn't help but shudder at the thought of what might've happened if he'd stayed.

His Dad had a tendancy to get violent, and physically violent too, so it was a good thing JJ had left when he did, and another good thing that Luke wouldn't care, despite his Son only being seven.

JJ kicked a stone underfoot as he walked, but something made him stop after a moment.

He turned to his left, noticing he'd stopped in front of the church, the one church the Cut had actually.

It wasn't big, but it wasn't small, and JJ could always remember thinking how beautiful it looked.

It was an old building, which is probably why JJ found it rather interesting.

He'd stopped because he'd heard the sound of kids laughing inside, and began chewing on his lip.

He didn't have any friends.

At school he was always alone.

Ate lunch by himself, spent break by himself, sat in lessons with his head down and didn't really speak to anyone, and no one really spoke to him.

There was this one boy that stared at him a lot, and JJ thought he might want to talk to him, but he hadn't had the courage to yet apparently, so JJ decided to just wait and see if he would.

He stared at the Church, or more specifically the side door where the sound of laughing was coming from.

JJ was a curious boy, and it was this curiosity that led to him making the decision to go inside.
