chapter 38- the battle of starcourt.

As soon as we all see them we go running up to them to say hi.
It's good to see everyone here. I didn't know if they were ok or not.
After we ass say hi and hug we decide to talk about what's going on.
"The mind flayer, it built this monster in Hawkins. To stop El and y/n, to kill them and pave a way into our world." Mike says.
"And it almost did. That was just one tiny piece of it." Nancy points out.
"How big is this thing?" Hopper asks.
"It's big. Thirty feet at least." Jonathan responds.
"Yeah.. it sort of destroyed your cabin. Sorry." Lucas says.
"Ok so just to be clear this.. big fleshy spider thing that hurt El it's some sort of gigantic.. weapon?" Steve asks.
"Yes."
"But instead of like screws and metal the mind flayer made it's weapon.. with melted people."
"Yes exactly."
"Yeah, okay. I- yeah, I'm just making sure."
"Are we sure this thing is still out there still alive?" Joyce says.
"El and y/n beat the shit out of it but yeah, it's still alive." Max says.
"But if we close the gate again-" will says
"We cut the brain off from the body."
"And kill it.. theoretically."
"Yoo-hoo!" The weird guy says walking over to us with some papers. If i remember it correctly his name is Murray.
We all go to somewhere with a table so he can show us something.
"Okay, this is what Alexei called the hub. Now the hub takes us to the vault room." Murray explains.
"Ok, where's the gate?"
"Right here. I don't know the scale ob this but i think it's fairly close to the vault room, maybe 50 feet or so."
"More like 500. What, you're just gonna waltz in there like it's commie Disneyland or something?" Erica says.
"I'm sorry, who are you?"
"Erica Sinclair, who are you?"
"Murray.. Bauman."
"Listen mister bunman, I'm not trying to tell you how to do things, but I've been down in that shit hole for 24hours. And with all due respect, you do what this man tells you you're all gonna die."
"I'm sorry, why is this four year old speaking to me?"
"Um, I'm ten you bald bastard." I laugh at her comment.
"Erica!"
"Just the facts!"
"Lucas i think i like your sister more than you." I say sarcastically.
"Haha funny." He says.
"She's right. You're all gonna die but you don't have to. Excuse me. Sorry, may i?" Dustin says going to the poorly made map of the place.
"Please."
"Okay, see this room here? This is a storage facility. There's a hatch in here that feeds inti their underground ventilation system. That will lead you to the base of the weapon. It's a bit if a maze down there, but between me and Erica we can show you the way."
"You can show us the way?"
"Don't worry you can do all the fighting and dangerous hero shit and we'll just be your.. navigators."
"No.. nope." Hopper says going to take the gun from one of the Russian guys that were laying in the floor.
"I actually think it's the best shot you got. I'd trust Dustin with my life and Erica is also very smart. It's better than going in blind." I say.
"Well, that settles it. He's gonna die. They're gonna die."
"Yep, most likely."
"You guys survived."
"Barely. We could've really user you guys down there."
"We could've used you up here too."
"Yeah man, we missed you dude."
"Yeah, big time."
"I missed you guys too, big time."
"Please, don't cry nerds."
"Erica-"
"Keep saying my name, see what happens."
"Hey, heads up. You can navigate just from someplace safe." Hopper says, giving Dustin a walkie talkie.
"It's nit that simple."
"The signal won't reach."
"Not with this. You need something with a high enough frequency band to relay with the Russians radio tower. But for that to work you need someone who had both seen their comms room and had access to a super powered handcrafted radio tower, one preferably already situated at the highest point in Hawkins. Oh wait. That's me. You want us to navigate, you got us. But we need a head start.. and a car."
After talking for a bit Dustin, Erica, Steve and robin get hoppers car and go to the radio. Me, max, Lucas, will, mike, eleven, Nancy and Jonathan decide it's best to go somewhere safe. Like someone's house.
We all say goodbye and start walking to the car we're gonna use.
"Hey, y/n." Will says walking next to me.
"Yeah?"
"Are you sure you're ok? I mean you used your powers a lot and you're not used to doing that."
"I'm ok. Besides, El is in way worse conditions I'm not the one you should be worried about."
"Yeah, but still. If you need anything tell me ok?"
"Ok."
We get to the car and get in it. Nancy sits in the driver's seat and Jonathan sits next to her. She tries to turn the car of but it won't work.
"What's wrong?"
"I don't.. i don't know. You can't be serious c'mon!"
"Didn't your mom just buy this car?"
"Yes! I'm sure it's fine."
"Did you leave the lights on?"
"No."
"Do we have gas?"
"Yes! C'mon!" She says trying ti start it up but getting nowhere.
"Stop, stop! Pop the hood."
Jonathan and Nancy go check the car to see what's wrong. After a few seconds we see this car turn on in a distance. It keeps making a noise with the engine to try and scare us or something. I look to see who is in that car and see billy. Shit.
"Get in the mall! Go! Go!"
We all run out of the car and into the mall. Once we get in we immediately try to make contact with Dustin and his group wich codename is scoops troop.
"Scoops troop do you copy? Scoops troop i repeat, do you copy? Were trapped in the mall and in need of emergency transportation. Scoops troop do you copy? Billy has found us. He has disabled our car and trapped us in the mall." Mike keeps trying to talk to them.
Nancy gets a gun from one of the other Russian guys on the floor.
"You're gonna kill him, aren't you?" Max asks.
"It's just a precaution."
"And not just against billy. If he knows we're here, so does the mind flayer."
"No chance that thing will drive, right?" Nancy says looking to the car i flipped over.
"We don't need it to drive.. we just need the ignition cable."
We all go to the car and try to flip it over so we can get access to what we need but we're not strong enough to do it so me and eleven try. First eleven tries alone but nothing really happens. Then i try and the same thing happens only it moves a tiny bit more because I'm in better shape than her. Then we both try at the same time and it starts to move but after a few seconds it just crashes back down to the floor. Were not strong enough to flip it over. Now I'm really useless.
We keep trying without the powers until we finally do it after a while.
I see El walk to a corner alone so i go check on her.
"You okay El?"
"Why couldnt i use my powers to do that?"
"I don't know.. i couldn't either. Maybe it's because we're tired. I'm new to this whole power things but one thing that i know is that you are way more powerful and skilled than i am. If anyone can figure this out it's you. But even if we can't use the powers right now. We can still help them."
"Yeah.."
Mike and max walk over to El and i go to where will is.
"Hey, uh.. can i talk to you?" I say.
"Yeah, of course." Will says.
"I'm not sure if I'm gonna make it out of here tonight and i have to tell you something because if i don't I'm gonna regret it."
"Ok?"
"I like you. I mean i really like you. Not in a friend way, i mean you are my friend but i mean in a like more romantic way? I know it's stupid and if you don't ever want to talk to me again i get it but i just wanted you to know Incase i end up dying tonight."
"You.. like me?" He says with a tone of disbelief in his voice.
"I'm sorry you probably think I'm weird now and hate me an-"
"I like you too. A lot. And not just in a friend way." He says blushing with a stupid smile on his face.
"Finally. I was begining to think this would never happen." We hear Jonathan day.
"..what?" We both say at the same time.
"What are you kidding? You seriously thought i didn't know this? It was painfully obvious."
"Yeah, your crush on him was embarrassing will."
"Shut up!"
"It's true tho, y/n also want good at hiding it i mean it was kinda sad."
I try to change the subject but notice will acting strange.
"Guys.." he says looking up.
We all look up to see what he was looking at and see something on the ceiling from the outside. It's the flayer. It's here, on top of the mall.
"Run!"
Mike, max and eleven run off to hide somewhere while me, will, Lucas, Nancy and Jonathan quickly run and hide behind the car as the flayer breaks through the ceiling and makes its way inside. I hold wills hand in panic while we hear the walkie talkie go off and Dustin asking for us to confirm safety. The flayer throws the walkie away breaking it.
I am so overwhelmed by fear right now i can barely hear anything except for the monster and my heartbeat. It honestly feels like I'm dying. I feel paralyzed from fear. And it's not fear from me possibly dying but for the others. If it was just me here than the others would be safe and I'd have an excuse to die but i have the poeple i love in here. My family. I can't let anything happen do them.
"What are you doing?" Nancy asks Lucas who's grabbing his slingshot.
"Don't worry." He throws a rock at a balloon from the mall and makes a sound, distracting the mind flayer. We use this as a chance to get away from it so we all run to the back rooms over to the stairs then run up them.
Were able to get out of the mall and we all go to the car and Nancy and Jonathan go put the cable on it so it works but as soon as we get to the car billy starts making that sound with his cars engine again. Nancy goes Infront of the car and starts shooting at Billy's car while Jonathan tries to get the engine to start. Billy starts speeding over to us and almost hits Nancy but Steve and robin appear with their car in time to crash it and stop it from hitting us. Billy's car starts to get on fire.
Were able to get the car started and Nancy gets in then, we tell Steve and robin ti get in so we can drive away while the monster gets closer. We start driving away and the monster keeps following us.
After a while Dustin starts talking through the same radio were in with.. Suzie? Huh, i guess she is real.
She makes him start singing so she gives him the awnser to an equation.
"What the fuck.."
This feels unreal. In the middle of being literally chased by a fucking monster they break out into a song like we're in a goddamn musical?
I can't help but laugh at the situation.
Suddenly the flayer stops in it's track and turns around. Walking back to the mall.
"It's turning around!"
"What?"
"It's turning around!"
"Maybe we wore it out."
"I don't think so, hold on." Jonathan turns the car around to go back to the mall.
While we're in our way back hopper and Joyce get to where they can shut the gate and they do it.
We finally see helicopters going towards the mall wich is now on fire.
"Is it over?"
"I don't know.."
After a few minutes we get there and see ambulances already there as well as firemen.
We get out of the car and go see what's going on. We see max eleven and Mike already sitting on the ambulance getting helped. We all check on eachother we go wait to see if Joyce hopper and Murray survived.
"Max I'm so sorry." I say hugging her knowing she lost her brother. She just hugs me and stays silent.
After a while we see Joyce and Murray walk out of the mall. Will goes running up to his mom to hug her and i let out a sigh of relief. However i notice hopper didn't make it..
I look over to eleven and see her breaking down in tears. I go over to hug her and we sit there on the ground for god know how long.
It's over.. it's finally over.
After a bit i see Dustin and Erica walking over to us and i go running over to Dustin.
We both hug each other, just happy were able to see eachother again.
"I missed you dust."
"I missed you too y/n. I'm sorry for not being as present these passed weeks.."
"Hey, it's fine. I'm just glad you're ok. Get home safe ok?"
"Yeah, you too."
Now everyone is going either to the hospital or home so i go talk to will.
I see him in the distance talking to his mom and brother while they're getting into a car getting ready to head home. He turns around and sees me. I wave at him and start running towards him.
We both hug each other. When i let go will holds my hands and looks at me.
"What?"
He moves his hands up to my face and kisses me.
"I'm so happy you're ok." He says hugging me again.
"I'm happy you're ok to will. I love you."
"I love you too."
We walk over holding hands to the car his family's waiting for him in.
I say bye to them and get a ride from one of the police cars home.
*Time skip.*
It's been a while since that happened. A month or so. Me and will ended up talking and we decided to give this a try and become boyfriends. I'm just sad he's moving away.
We're at the byers place helping them finish to pack up and but their boxes in the moving truck.
We finish packing and now we're all saying our goodbyes to the byers.
Will hugs me while crying a bit.
"It's gonna be ok will, I'm gonna call you all the time and send you letters. Well keep in touch."
"Yeah. I'll just miss you."
"I know, I'll miss you too." I say giving him a kiss.
I go say goodbye to Joyce and Jonathan then to eleven who is going with them.
"I'm gonna miss you El. You're gonna be ok there. It's far away from Hawkins and the byers love you. If you ever need anything just call me ok?" I say hugging her.
"Yeah. Ok. I'll miss you too y/n."
Before they leave i give will one last hug.
"I love you."
"I love you too."
They get into the car and drive away.
I can't believe this is how this year is ending. It's not perfect but considering what we went through it could've been way worse. I'm just gonna miss them. I can't wait to visit them.
