chapter 23- superspy.

It's now the next day, i change my bandages and i bike to school. I get there at the same time Dustin does so we both go look for the guys.
We walk around and find them digging through a trash can.
"What are you guys doing?"
"What do you think? We're looking for dart."
"Well well well, look who finally decided to show up. After i drew the short straw, really convenient."
"I'm sorry I'm late." I say even though I know he was talking to Dustin.
"You stink." Max says as she walks over to me and Dustin.
"Hi max." He says. God it's so obvious they like her.
"Hi?"
"Awkward.." i mumble, wich makes her laugh.
"Where's will?"
"He'll be here."
"Maybe he decided to get some rest after yesterday." I say as i grab a stick to help them look through the trash to find dart.
"Are you just gonna stand there? Or are you gonna help?" He says passing another stick to Dustin.
We spend a while there but find nothing so we just go on with our classes.
It's now lunch break and we decide to call Joyce to see if they're ok. The guys thought it was best for Mike to call her so i don't get too stressed.
"Anything?" Lucas asks as mike walks back to us.
"We need to talk, av room. Right now -max gets up to go with us but Nike turns to talk to her.- party members only."
"Come on mike." Dustin says.
"No! This is non-negotiable."
"Sorry max."
"Sorry."
"Yeah, my bad max. Mike can be a dick sometimes but I'll talk to him later."
"Thanks y/n."
We get to the av room and start talking.
"Okay, will didn't want me to tell you guys this but.. on Halloween night.."
"Mike, stop it we promised him he wouldn't say shit." I mention.
"But they have to know!"
"You know what? Fine! But just to make this really clear i don't agree on this."
"On Halloween night he saw a sort of shadow in the sky."
"A shadow? What kind of shadow?"
"I don't know. But it scared him. And if will really has true sight.. i mean if he can really see in the upsidedown, maybe he saw that shadow again yesterday."
"So that's why he was frozen like that?"
"Maybe."
"Can it hurt him? I mean the shadow thing isn't from our world."
"I hope the fuck not otherwise I will kill that thing myself. No matter what it takes." I say
"I'm not sure. Dustin?"
"Well if you're in another plane you can't interact with the material plane so theoretically no. The shadow can't hurt him."
"Yeah, if that's even what's happening. This isn't dnd. This is real life."
"So what do we do?"
"We acquire more knowledge. Me and y/n will go to wills after school and see what's going on."
"Yeah."
"You guys stay here and find dart."
"Dart? What's he gotta do with this?"
"Will heard him in the upsidedown. I don't know how yet but he's gotta be connected to all this. He's gotta be."
"And when will mentioned him.. it didn't sound positive."
"If we find dart, maybe we can solve this thing. Maybe we can help will."
The rest of the classes go by and me and Mike meet near our bikes to go to wills house.
"Hey, i was wanting to talk to you about max."
"Ugh, again with her?"
"Can you maybe stop being a piece of shit to her? It's hard enough that she's new to town and your making it worse by treating like that. All of us like her exept for you so maybe you should start thinking a little less about yourself and more about the others."
".. fine, I'll think about it."
"Ok. Thanks."
We get to wills house and knock on the door.
"Hello? Will! Mrs. Byers?" Mike says.
Joyce unlocks the door and opens it.
"Hey." I say.
"Hey, guys."
"Is will here?"
"You know what? Now is not a really good time."
"Is he ok? I w- we were worried about him."
"Yeah, me and y/n came to check on him."
"Yeah, you know he's just not feeling really well. He's laying down so I'll tell him you stopped by, ok?"
"It's about the shadow monster, isn't it?"
".. why don't you come inside? How do you know about that?" She says.
"He told us."
"Where is he?"
We walk inside and the place is full of drawings on the walls and floor and some even on the ceiling. It looks like a weird map of sorts.
"He's in the living room."
"Thanks. -i say walking over to him.- hey will! I was worried when you didn't show."
"Hey y/n! -he says hugging me.- oh hey Mike! I'm sorry about that.. ever sense that happened I've been feeling a little weird."
"It's ok, we're glad your fine." Mike says walking over to us.
"So, can you tell me a bit more about what's going on please?"
"It's like.. it's like i feel the shadow monsters feeling... See what he's seeing."
"Like in the upsidedown?"
"Some of him is there.. but some of it is here too." He's visibly afraid so i try to comfort him by holding his hands wich seem to help a bit but he's still on edge.
"Here like in this house?"
"In this house and.. in me. It's like he's reaching into Hawkins more and more. And the more he spreads the more connected to him i feel." He says with his voice shaking a bit in fear.
"And the more you see these now-memories."
"At first i just felt it in the back of my head.  I didn't really even know it was there. It's like when you have a dream and you can't remember it unless you think really hard. It was like that.. now it's like.. now i remember all the time." Tears start to fall from his eyes and i can feel him shaking a bit.. this is really affecting him..
"Maybe.. maybe that's good." Mike says.
"Good?"
"How?"
"Just think about it, guys. Your like a spy now. A superspy spying on the shadow monster. If you know what he's seeing and feeling.. maybe that's how we can stop him. Maybe all this is happening for a reason."
"You really think so?"
"Honestly that makes some sense."
"You really think so?"
"Yeah i really do."
"What if he figures out we're spying on him? What if he spies back?"
His grip on my hand gets tighter.
"Then, i will do everything and anything to help you and keep you safe. I'll use my powers even though Im not that great at controlling or even understand it. I will help you."
"And he won't."
"How do you know?"
"Like y/n said, we won't let him."
It's now night and we decide to sleep over.
It's really late now and we have been talking for a while so we decide to go to bed.
Mike falls asleep in like five minutes but I'm just thinking about what will said about how the monster is in him.. i can't imagine what he's going through.
It's now like 1am and will sits up in his bed.
"Can't sleep either?" I ask.
"Yeah..I'm just kinda freaked out about all of this.."
I get up from the spare mattress we put there for us to sleep on and sit next to him in his bed.
"It's ok, if it makes you feel any better your not the only one who's freaked out right now."
"Really?"
"Yeah. I'm terrified. I don't want anything bad to happen to any of us and i know that you must be exhausted from all of this. It's not fair what your going through i wish I could help you somehow.."
"You do help me. You always calm me down. I don't know why but your the only one who can do that now.. is that weird?"
"I don't think so. We always have someone we feel better around."
"Yeah, i guess."
"We should probably try to get some sleep. Also i don't wanna wake mike up." I say going back to laying down on the mattress.
"Oh.. yeah ok. Good night y/n."
"Night will."
