You don't read poetry-
like many people.
It leaves a bitter taste in your mouth
when you think of the paragraphs
from the 19th century
teachers made you analyze in grade school.
As if reading the old language wasn't hard enough.
I'd be off put by it too
if that was all I knew to be poetry.
But it has advanced so much more than
the 18th-20th century words
teachers gave to us.
I wish you would give modern poetry a chance,
I wish you would give my poems a chance.
I wish you would try to know me.
