Cassiopeia Harts raced like she had just finished running. She could feel her heart throbbing in her throat making it dry. She was immortal. She was just made to resurrect. She still bled red, she still needed food to survive and rest for strength; she was sweating from the heat. It felt much worse than a sunburn that she easily got in the summer sun.The only thing Cassi could see around her was faces she didn't recognize. She didn't feel safe here, not even with Kasdeya and Zagon by her. She felt very unsafe in an unfamiliar place. So much for a birthday.
"It is time." Lucifer said loud and proud. His hand circled, and when it stopped, he held a long steel sword, with a black handle.
It was the end for her once more. She didn't know if she should be glad or scared. Two hands wrapped around her arm, and both winced. Zag and Kas had a firm grip on her, holding her still where she couldn't run. She wasn't even thinking about it. Not in this place. But she did close her eyes.
Lucifer pulled back his arm which held the sword, and he swung. The sound of flesh ripping was clear. Cassi was stabbed... but she didn't feel a thing. She didn't feel anything, which made her open her eyes— she was staring at the back of Muse's head. He had the tip of the steel blade poking from his back.
"Muse!" Cassi said. She jerked her arms away from the twins, catching Muse as he fell back into her arms. His hand was on the hilt of blade, with blood on his lips, and his snakes no long hissing or moving. They were gone before him.
"I saved you again, my love..." Muse said, with a tear riding down the side of his face.
Cassi had her own tears pouring. And without warning, she saw every flash of Muse dying. Everyone of his deaths by a knife, a sword, an arrow, everything she could think of. And every single one of them had the same memory of Cassi standing over him. Those Cassi's didn't care for Muse. They looked happy he was dead, happy they were alive. But not this Cassi. Not the one crying over him.
"Why?" Cassi asked him. "Why do you keep saving me?"
"You're made for more, Cassiopeia Hart."
That was the gorgons last words. Last six words before he took his last breath. His chest stopped moving in her arms, and she felt his heart stop beating.
"Well," Lucifer said, taking the sword right out of Muse's gut, "that was a shocking piece of performance."
The people shrieked of laughter; Cassi looked up, her green eyes swollen with tears, only about to become more as she saw Beckett pushing his way through the crowd.
"Please don't." Cassi shook her head. "Run. Run, now."
Beck wouldn't listen. He didn't need to, nor would he.
"Who are you?" Lucifer asked.
"He's no one, Father." Zagon said quickly. "Get it over with."
"Oh my.." Lucifer smiled at Beck. "You're an Angel?"
Beck didn't answer. Instead he spread his hands letting the white power fly. Demons screeched and ran. Many of them fell to ashes, others screamed out in fear.
"You wish to play, Mr. Angel?" Lucifer snapped.
Beck grabbed his chest. Scratching at his heart. It stopped. He knew it stopped, and fell to his knees. But he smiled, knowing he took out as many demons as he could.
"Beck!" Cassi cried out. Her heart didn't stop, but it did feel as it had. Beck was all she knew.
Zagon stumbled back as Beck's head hit the floor in front of his feet. It was over. He couldn't keep up the act, as much as he needed to, he couldn't.
