{Philip's POV}
{Alexander's office}
"Pops, if you had only heard the shit he said about you I doubt you would have let it slide and I was not about to!" I said, really fast.
"Slow down," My father interrupted.
"I came to ask you for advice, this is my very first duel, They don't exactly cover this subject in boarding school," I said.
"Did your friends attempt to negotiate a peace?" My father asked.
"He refused to apologize, we had to let the peace talks cease," I said.
"Where is this happening?" He asked
"Across the river, in Jersey-" I said.
"Everything is legal in New Jersey!" We said.
"Alright, so this is what you're gonna do stand there like a man until Eacker is in front of you. When the time comes, fire your weapon in the air. This will put an end to the whole affair." Dad said.
"But what if he decides to shoot? Then I'm a goner?"
"No, he'll follow suit if he's truly a man of honor, To take someone's life, that is something you can't shake. Philip, your mother can't take another heartbreak." Pops said.
"Father!" I said, I was surprised.
"Promise me- You don't want this young man's blood on your conscience." Pops exclaimed
"Okay, I promise" I said.
"Come back home when you're done, Take my guns, be smart, make me proud, son." Pops said, handing me a set of guns.
"Yes, sir." I take the guns, and walk out of his office.
"Where are you going?" Y/n asked, looking up from her book.
"Upstairs to my room real quick, I'll be back." I said, running up the stairs to my room.
I set the guns down onto my bed and quickly write Y/n a letter explaining why I haven't returned just in case.
Then I head back down stairs to my father's office and hand him the letter. I gave him instructions to give it to Y/n if I don't return.
I grab my satchel and put both guns in it, I pull Y/n to her feet...I got to get in one last kiss somehow....
"Yes?" She giggled.
"Can I have a kiss?" I asked, blashfully.
"Of course." She kisses my cheek.
"You miiissedd..." I complained.
"What do you mean I missed?" Y/n asked.
I pulled her into a deep passionate kiss, her hands fidgeting with the back of my coat and nape, my hands were right on her waist.
"Oh, that's what you meant." She giggled, bashfully.
"Uh-huh," I smiled.
She smiled back, I pull her into a tight hug, what if this is the last time I see her?
"I'll come back..." I whispered into her neck.
"What?" She asked.
"I got to go somewhere, I'll be back..." I rub her back.
"O-oh okay, I'll be here," She said.
I pull away and give her one last kiss on the lips and walk out the front door.
I get into a carriage and tell the horseman to head to New Jersey.
When I got there, I was full of nerves, but I'm confident in my ability to count and to hold my gun up.
"Mister Eacker, how was the rest of your day?" I asked, as we walk onto the plain of grass.
"I'd rather skip the pleasantries, let's go, Grab your pistol." Eacker said.
I grabbed my pistol and with conferred with my men.
"The duel will commence after we count to 10," I said.
"Count to 10?" Eacker said.
And I remind myself,
"Look him in the eye, aim no higher.
Summon all the courage you require. Then slowly and clearly aim your gun towards the sky-"Then, Eacker's pistol fires...
But I don't feel a thing, there is no blood, I don't fall.
Did he miss?
