Alexa woke Chris from his restless sleep when she sat on the bed next to him. She laid her hand across his forehead as he cracked his eyes open. Her hand felt significantly colder compared to the heat coming from his temples.

"Hey, bub."

Chris made an attempt to speak but only a raspy noise escaped. She assumed he had only attempted to say 'hi' back in return. He tried to clear his throat and try again, but all he received in return was another achey sounding noise.

"Oh...baby." Alexa pouted above him. She leaned down to kiss his forehead and he closed his eyes, relaxing as her lips pressed lightly against his clammy skin.

"Here," Alexa said quietly, offering him more pills in her palm, along with a new bottle of water. He took it without complaint, but god he looked like his arms were jello when he reached out for them. He chugged the water easily and handed the empty bottle back to Alexa.

He pulled the comforter further up over his shoulder before he let out a rough, ragged cough. And again. And again. It sounded like it was ricocheting off of his rib cage, through his lungs and up through his throat. He let out a low groan as he shivered below the covers.

"Is there anything I can do for you, love?"

Chris shook his head briefly, but shut his eyes quickly, as though the movement put him off kilter. He swallowed loudly and shook his head once back and forth, hoping to get his point across without too much left over ache.

"Okay. Well, I just got Dodger out, so he's good for the night."

Alexa could tell from the confusion that read across his face that he had no idea what time it was. And how could he. He had basically slept all day. She ran her hand through his sweat dampened hair and said, "It's 10:15. You've slept most of the day."

"Go back to sleep, I've got everything sorted." Alexa said soothingly into the darkness of the room. Chris gave her one slow nod in return and closed his eyes.
—————

Alexa headed to the living room for the remainder of the late evening and dozed with Dodger on the couch.

She could hear Chris tossing and turning, and coughing and sneezing. She felt awful for him, and she knew that this just wasn't some crappy bout with jet lag. This had to be something else.
She decided then, that first thing in the morning she would call Megan and get help to see his doctor.

—————

"Honey...Hey...baby."

"Hmm?"

Chris woke slowly as Alexa laid her hand across his forehead again. Her voice stayed low and quiet while her hand went back through his hair, scratching lightly at his scalp.

"I called Megan. She helped me get you set up with your doctor. We're gonna do a video call with him on zoom in an hour."

"Thank you," Chris rasped out. He was surprised a bit of his voice came out, but both words didn't really fall well from his lips as he swallowed down the ever mounting glass ripping through his throat.

"Of course, baby. Why don't you go back to sleep for a little."

Chris nodded with a groan, but moved to sit up.

"Careful."

Chris nodded slowly again but continued to move. He pointed towards the bathroom and
Alexa nodded in understanding. Chris sat up fully, swinging his legs to the side of the bed. Something changed in him as soon as he switched positions though. As soon as he was upright, he suddenly became much paler.
