“Hey mum!” Gemma walked through the front door, oblivious to the conversation that was about to occur. “Have you seen- oh! There you are, Harry!” She exclaimed, looking up from her phone.
“Yeah, here I am!” Harry chuckled nervously. I sighed in relief. Gemma came and saved the day.
“Oh, was I interrupting?”
“No! No. Whats up, Gem?” Harry replied quickly.
“Oh I just got your text, you wanted to go out? You were just out.”
“Yeah, well I need to go again. Well, I’ll be back later. Bye Mum, bye Melly!” Harry scurried out the door behind Gemma while they whispered little things to each other.
“So, Mellissa, dear…” Anne and my mother turned to face me. Fear shot through my veins. I didn’t want to get grilled. I am going to kill Harry when he gets back.
“Well, I’ll be leav-“ I shuffled towards the door, but Anne grabbed me and pulled me into the living room. “-staying, I guess.”
“So, you and Harry, huh?” My mum asked excitedly.
“Mum!” I groaned. “We’re just friends!”
“That’s what they all say. We all know that you two banged in London.”
“What?! We did no such thing! Mum!” I exclaimed, hiding my face in my hands as the blood rushed to my cheeks.
“Girls and guys cannot be as close as you two without having at least one secret hookup.”
“Mother you are making me so uncomfortable right now! I’m dying!”
“Stacey, let her be, lets ease her in.” Anne chuckled. “So, you like him, right?”
My cheeks must have been on fire by now. “I don’t know!”
“Bullshit, you totally do. First step is denial. Eventually you’ll accept it.” My mother stated while sipping her tea.
“Mum you’re killing me.”
“So by avoiding the subject you are saying that you like him.”
I groaned in frustration, running my hands through my long locks. “Mother!” I exclaimed. “This is soooo weird! Normally is a girl’s best friends who do this crap but it gives me the heebie jeebies when it’s my mom and the mother of the boy in question.” I shuddered. “I’m going upstairs, please don’t follow me.” I gave my mum a pointed glance.
“Fine. We will revisit this.” She insisted.
“No.” I laughed as I went upstairs, making sure to lock my bedroom door to keep my mother out.
I sat down in my beanbag chair, sighing in relief. I was glad to have evaded a really awkward conversation. I closed my eyes after turning on my music. I was listening to the soft melodies of Nina Nesbitt when a pair of hands covered my mouth, muffling my scream. I turned, punching the assailant in the chest. Strong arms pulled me to their chest which was vibrating with laughter. I looked up to meet the green eyes that were so familiar.
“Harry! I hate you!” I exclaimed, punching his chest. He laughed even harder.
“You should have seen the look on your face. Oh my gosh, priceless!” He cried, grinning.
“You scared me so bad, how did you even get in my room?!”
“Your window. I like climbing trees.” He replied with a shrug and a wink.
“You’re an idiot. And I hate you.” He chuckled, ruffling my hair. “Stop that, you know I hate it!” I whined, pushing his shoulder playfully.
“Yeah? Your point.” I snorted, rolling my eyes before sitting back down on my beanbag. “I like this picture.” I turned to see Harry holding a picture of us right before he left for the X-Factor.
“Me too.” I smiled sadly, looking at the carefree joy on both of our faces. It was before all the publicity and stress of being famous. “I miss it.”
“What?”
“You being a secret. Being my Harry. When I didn’t have to share.” I mumbled. “I mean I’m glad that you’re successful, but I miss how we used to be able to do whatever we wanted whenever without the pressures of society and the constant scrutiny of the press and the people just watching your every move. I can’t have you be only mine again.”
“You’re pretty selfish.” Harry chuckled, picking me up off my beanbag. “But whatever.” He said, hugging me tight. We stayed like that for a little while. “Y’know, I miss it too.” I looked up at him quickly. “I like touring and singing, but I miss being with you without having to worry about what people think.” I reached up, nervously pushing his curls out of his face.
“Its okay, I’m learning.” I smiled. “It is new for everyone, and its just a time of learning to deal with it. I’m strong enough to handle it, and we will just have to be super sneaky.” I winked, letting him go before flopping face first on my bean bag once more. “I’m so tired.” I groaned into the fabric. Harry sat down next to me, stroking my hair gently.
“Yeah, me too. It has been a busy day.” He whispered.
“I want to stay here and never leave. Just cuddle up with my beanbag, blanket, and my teddy bear and take a nap.” I mumbled.
“Can I be your teddy bear?” Harry asked. I snorted.
“Depends on whether or not you’re going to be nice or not. You’ve been awfully sassy recently.”
“Have not, you’ve been the sassy one.” I snorted again, nudging Harry’s side with my elbow. My eyes remained shut and I soon found myself fast asleep.
