I stood there frozen for what seemed like hours after Harry had run out. I couldn’t believe what just happened. He kissed me. He kissed me! Why wasn’t I more excited? I raised a hand to my lips, touching them softly. Could that really have just happened? I was snapped out of my trance by my mother calling my name.
“Melissa! Get down here! We are waiting for you.”
“Be right down!” I shouted back, frantically trying to regain my composure. He kissed me, what do I do?! What does this mean?! I sprinted down the stairs and walked into the kitchen normally, pretending nothing happened.
“There you are! Here, have some breakfast, Harry made it.” My mum handed me a plate with pancakes and bacon on it.
“Thanks.” I said, taking the plate. I set it down on the table, stealing a glance at Harry who was avoiding my gaze and texting on his phone. I grabbed the gallon of milk and poured a glass, then sat down in my chair next to Gemma and across from Harry.
“Merry Christmas!” Gemma exclaimed with a grin, giving me a one armed side hug.
“Thanks, you too!” I hugged her back.
“Thanks for making breakfast, Harry.” Anne all but squealed. I cracked a nervous smile.
“You’re welcome, Mum.” Harry replied with a cheeky grin. “Merry Christmas.”
Right then the doorbell rang. I looked up at my mum. “Mellissa, go get that please.” She said as she cleaned up some dishes. I nodded, standing up.
I walked over to the door, running a hand through my hair so it looked relatively presentable. I opened the door to see a delivery man with a large box.
“Hello and Merry Christmas!” He grinned.
“Thank you, you too!” I smiled.
“I have a package for a Mellissa Nichols?” He said with uncertainty.
“That would be me.” I replied with a grin.
“Well, if you could sign here that would be great. Thank you.” He handed me the box and bid me farewell.
“Who was it?” Gemma asked from behind me.
“The delivery man. He has a package for me, but I didn’t order anything.” I replied, staring at the label.
“I think that you should wait to open it until we all open presents. Which we need to do now. Because I really really really want to open mine.” Gemma whined, pulling the box out of my hands and guiding me into the living room where Harry, Anne, and my mum were seated, ready to open presents. “Yay! We’re ready lets go.” Gemma sat me down on the love seat right next to Harry while bouncing over to her chair like an excited three year old. I smiled. “Mum, open that one from Harry.” Gemma pointed at the large box wrapped in glittery red paper. She grinned, tearing the paper off quickly.
“Oh, this is wonderful Harry!” Anne exclaimed as she unwrapped her new toaster. “Thank you, Mellissa!” She winked at me and Harry scowled, crossing his arms over his chest. “Oh, Harry, its not like you were going to fool anyone. Of course Mellissa chose it.” We all laughed again.
Next was my mum, then Gemma, then Harry, and me. This went on until all that was left was the big box the delivery man brought this morning. I looked at Gemma, who nodded in encouragement. I ripped the tape off quickly, opening the large box to find many smaller boxes inside. I pulled out the first one which was wrapped in shiny silver paper with a beautiful white bow on top. I tugged the string, opening the package carefully. It was a pair of shoes, big tall heels, at that. I held the sparkling silver shoe in my hand, raising it to eye level.
