RECAP:
I sat there for another fifteen minutes before I got up and went on my computer. I wanted to know what that necklace said. I grabbed the necklace, copying the phrase into the search bar as I got a phone call from an unknown number. I frowned, answering.
“Hello?”
“Is this Mellissa?” a Man’s voice asked.
“Yes.”
“Miss, I am sorry to inform you that Mr. Styles has been admitted into the hospital after a very serious car crash. Please come as soon as you can, you were the one he requested right before he slipped into a coma.” Tears brimmed in my eyes as I sat on shock, not believing what I was hearing.
“No.” I gasped.
“Ma’am I am very sorry.” The man said before hanging up.
“No…. Harry.” I whispered as tears streamed down my face. I reached up to close my laptop when the translation caught my eye.
‘I love you more than yesterday, less than tomorrow.’
END RECAP
“No. No no no no no!” I exclaimed, pacing around my bedroom as I ran my hands through my hair anxiously. “This is all my fault!” I cried. I rushed into my closet, throwing on my chunky Christmas cardigan and a pair of boots. I threw my hair up in a ponytail and shoved my toothbrush and make up in my purse before running downstairs.
“Mellissa, whats wrong?” Anne grabbed my shoulders, turning me to face her. My eyes were on the door though. “Mellissa look at me.” I met her eyes.
“He’s been in an accident. I have to go its all my fault.” I gushed before tearing myself out of Anne’s grasp. I ran outside, jumping into my car and speeding down the road to the hospital. I passed an intersection where emergency crews were still cleaning up after an accident. A shiny piece of black metal caught my eye. Harry’s car. I slammed on the breaks and got out of my car, running over to a young looking policeman. “What happened here?”
“I’m sorry ma’am I can’t say, just be on your way.” He said gruffly.
“No, you don’t understand that might have been my best friend’s accident.”
“I doubt it.”
“Harry Styles. This was his accident wasn’t it?” I demanded.
“I am not at liberty to say.”
“Goddammit Harry is the love of my life I can’t deal with this right now!” I screamed. “Haven’t you ever been in love? Wouldn’t you want to know what happened?” The policeman eyed me carefully before taking me aside out of the reporter’s view.
“Yes, this was Mr. Style’s car crash. He has been taken to St. James’ hospital with serious wounds.” Tears spilled down my face.
“What happened?” I whispered weakly.
“He was speeding and couldn’t stop at the stop light quick enough. That truck hit him right in the driver’s side door. He is very lucky to be alive.”
“No. This is all my fault.” I sobbed. The policeman pulled me into a tight hug.
“No, you can’t blame yourself. You couldn’t have done anything, Miss.”
“You don’t understand! Had I not said anything he would be fine! Now he’s almost dead.” I pushed away from the young man, but his strong arms kept hold of me.
“Trust me, I understand more than you could ever know. I lost my fiancée in an accident.” I looked up at him with a gasp. “We were supposed to be married a week after the crash. We got in a fight. She was pregnant with a baby girl, Annabelle would have been her name. She had just told me she was pregnant and that her parents had disowned her for having sex before marriage. I said some things I shouldn’t have, and she stormed off and a drunk driver hit her car and killed her. Be greatful you still have Harry. Cherish every moment.” He smiled sadly at me. “If you ever need an ear or just want to hang out, call me.” He smiled. “My name is Eric.” He scribbled his number on a piece of paper. “Now go to him.” He pushed me toward my car. I walked over, glancing back at Eric every few steps. He looked so broken.
“Mellissa.” I called, opening my car door. “My name is Mellissa. I’ll call you.” I said before hopping into my car and speeding off. I glanced in my rearview mirror to see Eric with a small smile on his face. I took a deep breath before speeding up, disappearing into the darkness.
I threw my car keys at the valet man before sprinting into the emergency room.
“Whoa, whoa, Miss, slow down there.” A nurse shouted. I frantically searched for anything hinting at where Harry would be. “Miss, I’m going to have to ask you to calm down.” The nurse grabbed my arm firmly, guiding me to a chair.
“No, you don’t understand, Harry’s been in an accident. Its all my fault I have to see him now. I have to see him!” I cried.
“Miss please collect yourself.”
“I have to see him. Where is he?”I demanded.
“Nancy, can you get something to settle her down she is in hysterics.” The nurse called to another woman who nodded before disappearing. “Honey, please calm down.”
“I can’t I have to see him I need to say I’m sorry. I love him, can’t you see?” I gripped the woman’s arms tightly. “Help me out.”
“All set up in room 2, Sal.” The other nurse stepped in, grabbing my other arm. “I’ll help you get her in there.”
“No, please help me I need to see him. I have to tell him I love him!” I cried.
“Grace I’m going to need your help as well, we have to get her down and sedated before she has some sort of attack.” Sal called for another woman.
“Hey, sweetie, lets go over here.” They dragged me into the room and got me on the bed, two of them holding me down while Grace prepared a needle.
“No, you can’t give me anything I have to see Harry. I need to see if he is okay.” I cried hysterically.
“Honey, you can see him real soon okay?” Nancy cooed as Grace plunged the needle into my skin. My breathing picked up rapidly and my heart rate sped up as well. “She is going into some sort of attack quick hook her up to a system to monitor her vitals.” A breathing mask was shoved on my face and I was hooked up to a machine.
“Oh shit this is bad.” Sal gasped. “Doctor! Come quick!” A doctor rushed into the room, gasping in alarm.
“Her breathing is so fast and her heart rate is incredibly high.” He exclaimed. I began to lose control of my body as I convulsed on the hospital bed. “Shit she isn’t breathing quick, pump more oxygen.”
“Her heart rate is dropping!” A nurse shouted. “Shit she is flat lining!” the noise of the machine beeping filled my ears.
“Get the defibrillator.” The doctor demanded. “Ready, clear!” Shock. “Nothing, try again. Clear!” Shock. “Come on, come on! Clear!” Shock. Voices were fading. “We’re losing her. Clear!” Shock. Vision was blurry. “Clear!” Shock. Everything was black.
