Mellissa’s POV
“Mellissa!” Harry sprinted across the road, narrowly missing a couple cars, chasing after me. I glanced back to see him gaining on me, and fast. “Mellissa Nicole get back here! Stop running!” Harry yelled.
I ran and ran until I could run no more, heaving and wheezing on the banks of the river next to Big Ben. Harry caught up to me, grabbing my shoulders.
“Mellissa what the hell?!” He exclaimed, shaking me.
“Harry stop.” I said, but he continued to shake me. “Harry stop! Harry, cut it out, dammit!” I yelled, pushing him away. “What the hell is wrong with you? That hurt!” I glared at him, trying to mask my hurt.
“Melly, why are you mad at me?” He asked, sadness in his eyes. I sighed.
“I don’t know.”
“Liar.”
“Harry!”
“Sorry.”
“I can’t say right now, okay? Its not the right time.”
“You’re not pregnant, are you?”
“Harry, you’re retarded.”
“Sorry, I had to check.” He shuffled his feet awkwardly. “So whats wrong?”
“Fine.” I sighed again. “Have you ever been so in love with someone that you can’t live without them, can’t function without them, and just depend on them completely? And then you find out that they don’t love you back? Or you at least know that they don’t love you back?” Harry nodded, looking into my eyes. “That’s what I’m feeling right now, Harry, and it hurts. It hurts so, so much. My heart aches. But I want him to be happy, Harry. I want him to love with a love that is like mine for him, and have a girl who deserves that love, who wont hurt him, will have the patience, and will make him happy. And if that’s not me, I’m okay with that. It will take a while to get over the hurt of seeing them together, assuming they get together and all, but y’know how it goes.” I took a deep breath, looking up into Harry’s green eyes. He stared at me with a look that I don’t think I’ve ever seen. And I have no idea what it is. “What?”
“Well I hope this guy realizes what he is missing. You’re beautiful, smart, funny, and everything a guy could ever want. So if he chooses some other girl over you, so be it, its his loss, and I’ll go kick his ass for you, because you only deserve the best of the best, you’re my Mellissa, and I’m not letting you go to any old boy, he has to be pretty damn special.” Harry grasped my hand tightly. I smiled weakly up at him. “Are you okay, Melly?” He asked, bending lower to see me eye to eye.
“Yeah, I’m alright.”
“Why did you run, Melly? Why?”
“I don’t know.”
“Bullshit, Mellissa, we both know that.”
“Because I didn’t want to face you.”
“What?”
“I didn’t want to be hurt.”
“What do you mean Mellissa? I don’t understand.”
“I mean exactly what I said, Harry.”
“But what does that have to do with this guy that we were talking about?”
I wanted to scream, to tell the entire world that I, Mellissa Nicole Parin loved Harry Edward Styles with all of my heart, with all that is in within me, and no one could stop me or prevent me from loving him. But I couldn’t. I couldn’t bring myself to tell him. How do you tell your best friend that you love them and have for all of your lifetime without losing them? You can’t.
