Harry’s POV
I heard voices. Lots of them. I fought to open my eyes, but I couldn’t no matter how hard I tried. I needed to! Mellissa needed me, I could hear her soft sobs through the door. Come on, Harry, get your shit together.
I had been semi conscious this entire time. I could hear everything, but I couldn’t move or control any of my body. I knew all of the boys had come to visit. So had my mum, Stacey, and Gemma. But most importantly, Mellissa was there, and she loved me! She said so herself!
Frantic voices spoke quickly and urgently all around me, many hands poked and prodded my sore body as they tried to do something. I wanted to scream out loud, tell them I am okay, especially now, but I couldn’t. I needed Mellissa again. She made me feel alive, gave me energy. I felt my body begin to convulse unconsciously, and the medical staff panicked. A loud noise burst my thoughts.
“Miss, you need to leave the room!” A voice called.
“No, I need to see him. I can’t let him go like this! I know Harry better than all of you let me try to settle him down.” Mellissa’s voice pleaded.
“He needs medical attention.” Another voice countered.
“Let me see him!” She screamed.
“Ma’am I’m going to have to ask you to leave before I call in security.”
“Mellissa, come with me.” Niall cooed. He better not be trying to pull a move on her. She was mine, dammit. I knew he liked her, but I wouldn’t lose to him. I tried harder than ever to regain control, fighting with everything I had.
“Let go of me! Stop!” I heard something hit the floor, then felt the bed shift from something hitting it. A warm, soft hand enveloped mine gently as Mellissa’s voice frantically spoke to me. “Harry, come on. You can fight through this you’re strong. Get it together! Come on! I need you!” She whispered. “Harry! I know you’re in there. Please stay, I cant lose you!” I heard a couple of slaps and felt Mellissa’s hand being pulled out of my grasp. No! “Harry if you can hear me squeeze my hand.” Mellissa cried as she gripped my hand tighter in an attempt to hold on.
I fought with everything I had to get that hand to squeeze back. Nothing. Come on! I don’t have time to waste. With the last of my energy, I broke through, squeezing Mellissa’s hand back tightly.
“Oh, he did it! Harry, you did it!” Mellissa shouted. The force trying to pull us apart subsided and I felt Mellissa’s warm presence next to me once again. I tried to smile, but I couldn’t. “Harry are you in pain? Are you okay? Oh gosh, I’m so sorry Harry this is all my fault!” She cried. “Are you hurting? Squeeze once if you are, twice if you’re okay.” I squeezed twice. “Oh, thank God.” She sighed. “Harry come back, please. I’m begging you.”
I didn’t know what to do. I fought and fought to open my eyes or move at all, but my brain just wouldn’t function. I could feel Mellissa’s presence by my side and heard the doctors whispering across the room. The more I focused, the more senses came back. I listened for the quiet hum of the monitors, the sound of footsteps in the hall, Mellissa’s shallow breaths. I could faintly smell the scent of antiseptic that hung in the air. The smells of bleach. Come on, Harry. Mellissa’s grip on my hand tightened as the sound of the heart rate monitor increased along with my breathing. She was shaking in fear, and all I wanted was to wrap her in my arms and assure her that everything was fine.
She loved me! I felt a smile creep on my face.
“Oh, he is smiling!” Mellissa gasped.
I felt the adrenaline pulsing through my body, building up like the lava in a volcano-ready to burst out at any second. Sweat dripped down my forehead as I forced myself to focus on the simple task of opening my eyes. My mind went blank, a bright white light consumed my vision though my eyes were shut. My palms began to sweat and the doctors voices became louder and more concerned. Mellissa’s breathing hitched. I could feel her cool breath on my cheek, making me shiver knowing how close she was to me, and I couldn’t touch her or look at her. The tension built in my body and I felt as though I was going to burst as my heart rate continued to shoot up and I began to sweat and convulse profusely. Come on! I shouted at myself. My eyes shot open to be met by the bright lights of the hospital room.
