Spencer's POV:

It a nice fall day here in California, it's hard to see a view of the woods and the leaves because there's a wild fire going on and it is worse than the one 18 years ago, even though I wasn't born then I heard about because everyone was talking about Cyrus's dad being in the fire that year. I am currently at work in a toll booth in a parking garage to help with money since after my dad had been struggling to take care of me, blake and danny. Blake also works at the toll booth but different hours, but on some days we have the same shift and have to take danny with us. After school let out, I offered Blake a ride home before my shift but she said no and took the bus which isn't very smart cuz of the fires but I just let it go. After a while of working, I got a call from a number i don't recognize, I answer and find out it's blake. "Hey, can you come get me and hurry! There's a bunch on animals running out of the fire." Blake finished. My eyes widen and say, "Y-yeah, I'm on my way, don't go no where!" I hang up and jump into my truck and drive to the bus.

~ time skip ~

Shortly, I arrived and see the horror and it's still going crazy with animals everyone and bodies with pools of blood. i ignore it and look for Blake. As I kept looking, I saw her and some boy on the ground with him on top of her. I look over and see a car crashed into another, I ran over, "Holy shit, are you guys okay?" Blake ignores me as the boy nods. "What's your name?" "Everett." "I'm Spencer." I look over and see they both have bites and I have a confused look on my face but just shake my head to whip that thought out. "Go, both of you! Get out of here, don't want you getting hurt. Blake, I'll see you when I get home." I finished. She just nods and runs home, while Everett said thank you and went the opposite direction. I nodded and ran to my car. I see my car but before I could get to it, I get shoved into a car. I grunt and stand up and squint my face in pain but it goes away as I see who caused it and it was a wolf, on his hind legs, staring at me in anger. He lunges forwards and bites my arm and I somehow kick him off and run to my car. I step on the gas like my life depended on it and drove home, shocked on what the hell just happened.

Once I got home, I saw my Dad putting stuff into the car. I park my car and walk to my dad. "What's going on? Where's blake?" "Blake's inside changing and you should've been here helping with your brother." I roll my eyes and look for Blake. I went to her room and see her looking in the mirror at something. "Hey, are you okay, what happened?" "Oh, uh it's nothing don't worry about it." I look at her with concern but shrug it off and go to grab my stuff. I got to my room and saw the nasty bite through my jacket sleeve and it hurts like hell. 'Damn that's gross' I thought to myself. I changed my jacket and pack a bag with some clothes and other stuff I needed and went to the car.

I got to the car and saw them loading up. I got in the backseat with danny and see him fidgeting and rocking back and fourth. "Danny." He ignores me. "Danny!" He looks at me and I give him his fidget toy and starts playing with it. I get in the car and shut the door as dad drives off.

Everett's pov:

I woke up as the doctor and nurse came into my room to check on me. "Hey. Nice to see you a little more lucid, Everett." He continues, "Well, we don't have any burns from the fire, but you do have a rather nasty bite from an animal." As he looks at my wound on my shoulder. "It did look quite a bit worse when he came in right?" He asks the nurse. "Maybe, it was all the blood and the wound wasn't that deep." "Well, you're pretty lucky, Everett. There was quite an accident on the highway. Sounds like there were a lot of car crashes and animals running everywhere." I follow as he walks to the other side of my bed while my eyes flickered in tiredness. "The ram..." I got interrupted, "bighorn sheep. Horses too. A few stables burned down and sent them all running to the hills." He walks closer, "Hey, I want you to relax, okay? The worst is over." He reassured me as he left and jus the nurse was in the room. I look around as I try to relax and focus my breathing. "So what about your other friends?" The nurse asks. "Do you know anybody who made it here to the hospital from the highway?" "Uh, everybody ran. Th-there was two. Blake and Spencer." "They friends of yours?" "No, not-not really. I mean, most of my friends are online." I finish as I look at her. "Mm. Okay. Well don't worry, kiddo. We called your parents." I realize what she said and I freaked out and looked straight at her. "My parents? They're coming here?" She put her hand on her hip and said, "That's what happens when we call the parents." I sigh and put my head on my pillow. "And they're usually pretty happy to know that you're okay." "No, no. Not my parents." "I'm sure everything will be fine." I sigh again as she said okay and walked out of the room and shuts the curtain. Not even a second later, the phone in the room rang. I look at the phone confused as I sit up to reach it. "Um, hello?" "Get out of the hospital." The distorted voice says. "Who is this?" I state in confusion. "Leave the hospital. Now. Grab your things and go." "What? Why?" Okay, now I'm panicking. "It's going to find you. It's going to keep coming, Everett." "How do you know my name?" "It can't move easily in daylight. But it will move and it will come for you." I get out of bed in a panick, "Why is this happening to me?" "You we're bitten. It had to find you before the next full moon." "What's it want?" Silence filled the air before it said, "To kill you. Before the full moon." Next thing I know, my parents swing the curtain open. "There he is. Jesus, Everett what were you thinking?" I drop the phone as a sharp pain shoots through my wound. I hold it in pain as my parents and nurse look at me weird. I look at my arm to see this glow with black veins in my arm as I pass out on the floor. "Everett! Everett!"
