What is the Trinidadian holiday (also celebrated in Rio and Brazil) known as Carnival?
Carnival is a holiday that is typically celebrated for an entire week every February (aside from the COVID-19)! It's an event that is all about freedom and fun!
In 1783, the people of Trinidad (Native American, Black and other communities living in Trinidad) fought back against France's colonial rule and were victorious, winning the battle of independence. Now free and liberated from their oppressors, Trinidad holds Carnival as a yearly event to honor the positive way things turn out and the people who made it possible then and make it possible now! Though Trinidad has their issues like any country, when Carnival rolls around, it's always a happy reminder that at the end of the day, freedom is natural and we're allowed to embrace and enjoy the liberation that has been won for Trinidadians and the world.
