Usopp and Nami are very close friends, and crew mates, who are members of the Straw Hat Pirates. They both find great comfort in each other's cowardly nature, bonding over the fact that they are the weakest of the crew, and have developed a great sense of trust as a result. Alongside Chopper, they are considered the cowardly trio and do their upmost to avoid danger, which frequently involves discouraging their captain, Luffy, from being his usual reckless self.They first met when Nami, alongside Luffy and Zoro, arrived on Usopp's home island, Syrup Village. Nami was quickly able to see through Usopp's lies but was still able to became friends with him. Soon after, she, and the others, got involved with the affairs concerning Usopp's closest friend, Kaya, and the pirate, Kuro. Nami successfully helped defeat Kuro and his crew, thanks to Luffy, and ultimately save Usopp's friend. Soon after, Usopp joined the crew. Their friendship immediately hit a snag, however, after Nami betrayed the crew due to her allegiance to the Arlong Pirates. However, thanks to Luffy's aid, as well Usopp's, she was able to return to the Straw Hats and they have sailed the seas together since.Whilst Nami is a much more serious and quick-tempered person, Usopp is silly and easily frightened. Nonetheless, they find a sense of understanding in their mature approach to various situations, namely to avoid danger at all costs. To that end, they are often making the same argument against Luffy's decisions as captain. However, on this front they frequently fail to change their captain's mind and can be seen sulking together as a result. Furthermore, they are amongst the cleverest members of the crew, and can frequently suggest solutions or provide insight that their captain, and sometimes other crew members, fail to grasp. Usopp is also very intimidated by Nami's violent side, and does his best to avoid angering her. They consider each other to be the most normal members of the crew, in that they don't possess any superhuman abilities or powers. Very often in fights, the two frequently end up arguing over who should be saving who, which can lead to a comedic exchange.Nami has been frank to Usopp about her feeling of inadequacy for Luffy and the crew. This feeling is something that Usopp understands very well, as he often feels the same, and he agreed to help make a device for her that she can use in combat. Since then, Nami has made great use of the clima-tact, that Usopp created for her, and it has become her signature weapon. These feelings of insecurity would flare up again on Usopp's side, as whilst on Water 7 Usopp lost the crew's money to the Franky Family. When Nami found him brutally beaten, he confided in her that he has no idea how he can face Luffy for his failures. Seeing Usopp like this bothered Nami quite a bit, as the next day she could not stop thinking about it whilst she and Luffy explored Water 7. However, the pair have ultimately developed a greater sense of confidence in their abilities, especially post time-skip, and have proven to be a very effective duo in combat, a far cry from when they first joined the crew.
