The water was so cold when y/n dived, feeling her sore body relax a bit, before the shivers came back. She stood far from the boy, who looked at her, still stunned. It was perfect. She was so perfect for him.
She noticed he was staring and splashed him in the face with the freezing water, laughing so loud she covered her mouth so no one would hear. He wiped his eyes and looked at her with devilish eyes.
"Oh, you're gonna pay for that!" He hit his hands on the water, throwing it on the girl. She squealed and started splashing him, in a little water fight. She tried to swim away, but he grabbed her foot and  pulled her to lay her Bach on his chest while wrapping his arms around her frame, making her unable to move.
"Okay, okay! I yield!" She screamed between laughs and squeals. He slowly let go of his grip, but kept his arms around the girl's shivering body.
His laugh faded into a lovely and truthful smile, as he could feel y/n's shaky breathing through her back. He put his arms on both of her shoulders, moving them against her S/C skin, in an attempt to warm her up. She leaned her head back to rest against his shoulder to which he responded by hesitantly placing his cheek on her forehead, and she could feel his warm breath, both of them recovering from the water fight.
She was so tired, she didn't even think when she turned and hugged the boy's bare torso, so tight there was barely any space between them. Newt hesitated before he wrapped his arms onto the shorter girl's shoulders, resting his cheek on the top of her head as he slightly played with her wet hair.
Suddenly, after a few minutes, she slowly looked at Newt, still as close as possible. She stared deep into the boy's dark eyes, barely thinking straight. Oh, she loved him. She smiled at the thought of that, and he smiled too, admiring her beauty.
She blushed and turned her head down, trying subtly to step away from the embrace, but he carefully placed his calloused hand on the girl's neck, stroking her cheek with his thumb. Y/n swore she could just pass out. His eyes were so deep into her she thought he could read her mind.
His eyes trailed to her trembling lips, becoming purplish from the cold, and she did the same. They leaned into each other, her holding her breath in anticipation. He pulled her head towards him with a sexy smirk plastered on his face and leaned down just slightly when they got interrupted by someone.
"What the shuck do you think you're doing? Do you want to die of hypothermia? Get here now!"
Alby's angry voice made them both jump out of their trances, both stepping away from each other, a bright red tinting their cheeks. They got out, covering themselves with their arms and shaking.
Alby looked away to give the girl privacy, and ordered that y/n went to her "room" for him to have a talk with Newt.
"Are you out of your mind? You could get killed by grievers or fall, but risk your life because you want to go for a swim, it's reckless and stupid, and on y/n's first day as a runner?" He shouted, hand on his eyes in disappointment. Newt knew he was reckless. But they had done it before, in the morning, but did.
"I'm sorry, Alby. But don't punish y/n, she needs to be a runner." He said almost as a whisper.
"I won't... punish any of you. But it cannot happen again." Newt just nodded with his head down, a towel wrapped around his body. His hair was sticking to his face as he just processed what happened.
He almost kissed y/n. What?!
He liked her. Of course he did. How could he not? She was just so... so good. 'Did she like him too?' he asked himself, cause she didn't pull away. All he wanted was to touch her. Feel her embrace.
Alby left and Newt just couldn't calm his thoughts. He needed to see her. Be with her. He put on a T-shirt and comfortable pants and just sat on his hammock. God, y/n fucked him up.

He got up, walking carefully through the hammocks not to wake any gladers. He knew Alby would actually kill him if he knew, but he needed to see her. He got to her part of the household, it was high leveled, so he went up the ladder and got there.
He slowly got closer to her hammock, and his heart almost stopped when he noticed she wasn't there. He walked around a bit on the small space when he saw her sat down on the floor, next to the edge of the balcony. She heard him and looked back, smiling and tapping the ground next to her when she realized it was him. He approached the girl and sat down next to her, legs dangling loose.
"What are you doing here Newt? Alby will literally murder you if he finds out." She said looking away to the walls of the maze under the starry sky.
"He won't... find out, I mean." She chuckled and Newt couldn't help but be mesmerized at the sight. She was so beautiful. "Why are you awake?"
"Can't sleep. How bout you?" She looked at him through the corner of her eye as he shrugged.
"I don't know. Got a lot on my mind I guess." He looked into her eyes and she blushed.
They were really close. His hands were supporting his body behind him, while her's were in her lap, fidgeting. Maybe she was just as nervous as him. She suddenly sighed, making the boy look at her, worried.
"Newt?"
"Yes, love?"
"Do you remember anything about your family?" The question caught the boy completely off guard.
"Hum... no. Not really, why?"
"I've been having dreams. Actually only two times. About a beach. There's a little boy and I'm drawing him. And it feels so good. Eventually he comes to me and we start playing." Her eyes filled with happy tears just at the thought of it.
"Lucky. I wish I had happy dreams. Usually is just nothing." He said, still looking worried.
"I don't know... I just..." she was holding back tears, chest tight.
"Hey... relax. I get nervous sometimes too. It's hard to not have answers. But maybe these aren't the kind of questions we should be asking." He commented and she noticed how he was fighting an urge to grab her hand.
She looked at him, a single tear sliding down her cheek. She put her arm beside her, to support her body, hand inches away from Newt's.
"Newt?" She said suddenly, and he turned to look at her. The sky was getting lighter, a beautiful blue and purple tinting the view above the Glade.
"Yes, love?"
"Do you think we'll ever get out of here?" She asked and their fingers touched. Just the slightest contact made his whole body chill.
"Y/n, is not my place to answer to that. But, yeah. I still have hope. Hey..." he finally made a move and grabbed her hand, and the girl blushed like crazy. "You have to hang tight. You're a fighter, y/n. I see that. Everyone does. I do believe we're getting out of here."
Y/n looked deep into his dark eyes, heart pounding with warmth. She squeezed his hand and chuckled, looking down.
"What?" Newt asked.
"I don't know. I just... I don't think anyone has ever made me feel like this. Not even before all that's happened. Is that crazy?!" She said blushing and smiling shyly to the sky.
He felt like he was going to explode. He pushed a loose strand of hair behind her ear, and slightly stroke her warm cheek.
"No, love. Not crazy at all." So he leaned in so close she could feel his breath on her face, eyes glued to her lips. Their noses were touching and y/n got dizzy.
If he leaned one inch their lips would touch.
"Can I kiss you?" He whispered seductively, using both his hands to cup her face. She just nodded, too mesmerized to speak. Then with a quick move he connected their lips.
At first she was still. Thinking that if she moved this would end and she would wake up. But then she melted into the kiss, pulling Newt even closer to her by the neck, caressing his hair, sending chills down his spine. She put her loose leg over his bent one, not pulling away for a second. One of her hands trailed down his chest, to his arms, then his strong back. She just needed him closer.
At first his hands were on her face, then he moved them to her waist, settling her almost on his lap when he noticed her trying to get closer. The rush of emotions running through both of them was electrifying. They parted to catch their breath, not opening eyes for a second. He was holding her by her waist and her hands were on his strong shoulders. He licked his lips nervously, and she smiled. Her forehead was rested on his, and he stroke her hair.
They couldn't even say anything. All they wanted was that moment to last forever. The sun was starting to appear from the furthest wall of the maze when Newt pulled away to look at her. She was still in a bliss, but managed to smile at him with lazy eyes.
"I have to go." He said almost in a whisper.
"Noo stayyy!!" She whined pouting. He laughed and placed her back on the ground. Newt got up, kissing her head. She looked up and pecked his lips.
"Goodbye Newt."
"Goodbye, Love."
